NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

So how's everyone enjoying the launch? :D
This is the first time I've ever felt worried about a new graphics card that is on the way lol. I mentioned to my wife earlier that my expensive fire risk with potential performance issues has been dispatched for delivery tomorrow. She questioned whether we have home insurance (we do, of course) and said to make sure the kids get out of the house OK if it bursts into flame lol.

Ugh, so we have somebody here affected already by the missing cores? With the 4090 launch and the melting cables, one thing I took comfort from was that it took a long time before anybody popped up here affected by it. That did imply the problem was rare.

With the tiny number of 5090s in circulation, having a case on these forums already just feels ominous.
Haven't seen one on this forum unless I missed it but I'm also on Overclock.net and a guy from the US has posted in the 5090 forum saying his Suprim is affected

Cliffy on the previous page. Hit by it on an MSI Gaming Trio. Though just for emphasis, as this is a bad die batch, any make and model can be affected. There's a confirmed case with an FE now.

And look for what exactly?

Excuse me lack of knowledge.
With the latest driver installed, open GPU-Z and check the circled section here:

I'll be checking mine once I've installed it this weekend.

Also, worth noting if anybody hits this problem and decides they'd rather live with a 5% performance hit rather than RMA... don't.

First of all, the card is bad. There is no guarantee that whatever manufacturing defect caused this won't escalate further over time.

Second, the card's resale value is in the gutter. If you don't declare the problem, anybody who buys it off you will have a claim against you. If you do declare it, the value will drop like a stone.

i can tell you right now those early adopters who spent big peaz on a 5090 and discovering the missing ROPS will RMA, they will have to wait ages for a replacement, they will be offered refunds and will cause a ball ache for the resellers, and those who are not bothered will just ignore the situation, once its forgotten about I suspect there will be many 5090s in used market circulation with the missing 8 ROPS

I can tell you right now that many will now check their 5090s, I certainly will check when I manage to aqquire a 5090

Has anyone checked to see if 5080s are affected? i wouldn't be surprised if it is affected, and the half baked 5060 no I meant 5070

It's obviously worth checking, but it's unlikely. The problem is apparently a bad die batch. The 5090 and 5080 have different dies.
