NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

so the missing ROPS from 5090s

Would that be an RMA? or will it be treated like a few dead pixels on a monitor is normal and not classed as faulty?

technically if the GPU still works then its OK?
I didn't think the market could get much worse, but if we get to the point where missing parts of the GPU are treated like dead pixels, wow.

I wonder if the 5090 dies with lower ROP counts were meant to be sent to China as 5090D's but the dies got mixed up and some were used for western 5090 models

It otherwise feels so random to fuse off ROPs but leave the Cuda core unchanged

When new cards come out with new drivers shortly after there was always in the past cries of "NVidia are throttling old cards" "Nvidia are nerfing older cards in the drivers" claims and outcry.

This time round Nvidia are nerfing the flagship card by removing PhysX 32bit compatibility and somehow have dropped off 8 ROPS on random 5090 cards. I reckon they have fallen on the floor underneath the fridge thats where you find most missing things.

Ugh, so we have somebody here affected already by the missing cores? With the 4090 launch and the melting cables, one thing I took comfort from was that it took a long time before anybody popped up here affected by it. That did imply the problem was rare.

With the tiny number of 5090s in circulation, having a case on these forums already just feels ominous.
