Road Cycling

April 25th is supposedly the day we move! It’s looking ahead of schedule so hopefully it’s sooner but I don’t think it’ll be delayed which is the most important part

I have a headwind but did debate getting another fan but I think the truth is I just sweat a lot. It probably doesn’t help in a tiny insulated shed but I think I’m just a heavy sweater lol
I’ve just got a portable ac unit blowing in my direction. It’s not very “wide” beam air wise so mostly hits my body and that’s it.

Not gonna lie, the vacmaster moves more air than the headwind. I tend to have the vacmaster on higher settings and then set the headwind to track HR. I have the windows in my office open as well usually.

We have a free standing AC unit that I used in the summer but just don’t have space for it in the shed now it’s getting packed up with rubbish

Killing time on a rest interval so thought I’d share the lack of space

I’ll probably get one as they’re on sale quite often. I do love the heart rate feature and it’s nice being able to control it from my phone but it’s not unusual for me to just put it on full blast and leave it

I think thats most peoples experience with it to be honest. Good fan and cool idea but you generally have your fans on high for anything beyond Z2. You going to have a good space for this in the new place?

Before buying it I thought the speed function was going to be really immersive. Until I realised how hot you get cycling indoors and the last thing I need was barely any air when going up a climb at 5KPH!!

Yeah man, the plan is to use the spare room as an office space then we’ll be getting a 6x3m garden room built which will be my office/pain cave but that’ll be a next year thing I expect.

But by April the weather is usually lovely so I’ll be back outside. Really enjoyed going for a really quick flat 20 mile blast before work back in the spring/summer.

Assume he just has normal non-prescription cycling glasses?

I really want some new cycling glasses. Mine are some relatively cheap Siroko photochromic ones, but i never find they go dark enough and generally feel a bit rubbish. I keep eyeing up the Sungod ones but i keep spending money on other stuff and justifying €200 for something i don't "need" is tricky!
Get Oakley Sutro with Prism road lenses. Thank me later :)

I ordered this as wanted a better saddle for my gravel bike
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100....order_list.order_list_main.29.4afc1802RwRiYO (The T40A carbon version)

Now trying to decide whether to keep it or whether to return it and just spend a bit more on something like the Ergon SMC which is really designed for long distance ultra cycling. I kind of wish i'd just gone for the €30 plastic rail version rather than spending €65 on the carbon version. Although annoyingly it's now reduced to €50!

strange, I paid £35ish for mine. like @Roady noticed, the front/tip is quite wide on them.

I got my self an ergon recently, using their site to recommend me one but yet to get out and try it.

cheapest I could find.

I think they do different ones. I'm sure my other Ryet was around €45 which is similar so just assumed this was a newer/better version, although it doesn't seem much different.

Be interested in your thoughts on the Ergon, i've got their grips and they're definitely worth spending a little more
Wonder if they bumped up the price due to popularity of them…

Yeah, I’m hoping to get outdoors soon and see how I like it. It’s always hard to say from just sitting on the bike inside. Need a proper 45+ min plus ride to see.

I never quite got comfortable in a saddle. Even when I commuted daily I still had sores. I can usually do 45-60 mins before any discomfort appears. Used to be 30 mins on the other bike, it was too big for me tho.

Could be. I think tey also just fluctuate a lot. The 2024 edition is now showing €52 which is around £40 so not too different. I just timed it badly it seems!

Just had a flag I’ve hit my monthly distance target already. Having the Kickr Bike has helped just to fill the gaps where i'd otherwise get to the evening and get annoyed the day got away from me and i'd missed the chance to ride. I can then get a time indoors. Might help in summer too when it's too hot outside. At least i'll have the A/C indoors!

I’m at 500km a month after doing ~4600 in 2024 but starting to question if I need to up it.

My Garmin Edge died on me this morning after only 4 hours. 520+, had it a few years and battery life has noticeably been shorter lately but this is the first time it hasn’t gone the full distance. Think I’ll upgrade to an 840. Anyone got any real world experience of the solar? It’s an extra $100. Just read DC rainmakers review and he seems to think it only generates 25mins or so from a 4 hour ride. Barely seems worth it however ironically that would have got me home today. He also publishes the 840 expected battery life and with everything going it has worst case of up to 26 hours. I’m never going to need that :D

So nice starting a ride with the temperature above 1°C, so to celebrate I did my first UK 100k since last September! That rather surprised me when I looked back, but it's just been too rubbish weather to want to ride longer rides. (Well, that and Covid in October!)

I’ve got the 1040 and it’s an awesome device. No complaints.

No, the non solar one. I’ve done a good amount of digging and to be honest with you, there’s no need to buy the solar unless you’re some ultra endurance rider. I’ve charged mine once in two months and even then it was a top up from 75% to 100%.

It sips energy and seems to last for ever.

Yep, that’s what I’ve been reading. Likely not worth the extra cash.
Appreciate the input :)
