Who here plays Supreme Commander Forged Alliance Forever?

I used to love SC:FA but I fell out of love with it because there was a bug where the game would slow to a crawl as more and more units were created. Something to do with the engine not being designed for multi core CPUs so even with a fast PC, every game would end up essentially being played in slow motion. Did FAF fix that? If so I'd probably give it a try. Still got my DVDs somewhere but probably easier just to buy a digital copy.

its not a bug im aware of .....but yes it slows down eventually if you have tens of thousands of units, but if you're playing a modern faf game on anything newer than a 12th gen, runs fine.

Can I recommend Beyond All Reason, it's basically a modern retooling of TA / Supcom with a much more capable game engine, there's a pretty active community so it's reasonably easy to get a game.
edit: forgot to mention it's free, and there's no monetization.

That looks good! I'll give it a try when I have time for some gaming.

I've tried it numerous times and its not great, I really don't like it unfortunately - the way sup com is, is farrr superior IMO !

to add there is also Zero-K - also on steam
i prefer this over BAR to be honest.
i keep going back to FAF when i have a working computer.

Ah I love this game and use to play a lot even better with FAF

Alas I dont have the time for PC these days I would love to play it again

if i could stream the game using steam streaming i would do it that way but it doesnt work :/
i might try sunshine/Moonlight on the weekend come to think of it
to see if that works.i have a pc but its not in a location i can play or move

I would have through it would run on just about any graphics from the last 10+ years given how old the game is. I always found the CPU to be more of an issues that the GPU as the base game is heavily single threaded. I've just checked my retail version it recommends an Nvidia 6800.

me to, but it runs poorly when i tried. tobe fair i didnt try FAF were its more optimised but i dont think it will be much of an inprovement.
from what i remember the issues were graphical more than CPU.
i have a 1650 in a desktop PC (badly needs to be repalced and upgraded as its over 8yrs old and an old Dell 7010 optiplex SFF (likely 2012 release date) its doing well all things considered) which is used for steam streaming but never managed to get FAF to work right with Steam Streaming, and scrolling around was an issue for map control when i tried SCFA.
i'll have another look at it on weekend and see were i get to.

Worth a try. I had a similar aged setup with a 3570k and 680 and that ran it aright. Have to admit, every time I've upgraded my CPU it's always given the game a nice boost on vs AI skirmish maps.

I occasionally give it a go as it is one of the best RTS games ever made imo.

FAF version as well which balances stuff, and allows for custom AI's like Sorian AI.

One of the few games which support multi monitors as well! and no retarded low unit limit. Main problem with all RTS's historically used to be population/unit limits imo.
The only thing I always though was that teching up should be more expensive and masses of lower tier units should fare better against higher tier units. I love games that allow for steamrolling with masses and masses of units.

Having that second map open on another screen or if you've got a large single screen you can open the mini map up enough to actually be useful - very cool feature!

I love the global zoom as well - it's the one thing I often find I miss in any other game (the Civ games allow for that but not much else) - quickly being able to zoom out and then in again somewhere very far away is just so satifying if you're watching a nuke land on a load of AI units or a friends base and then daisy chain all his T3 reactors haha

I don't think I've ever had the game slow to a crawl on my 5800x3d as yet and that's with 6 of us playing and some do try to max out their unit caps along with AI flooding us with units so FAF has done a great job dealing with the engines limitations in that regard.

i did try sunshine/Moonlight and it seemed to work really well allthings cosidered, scrolling seemed odd, and not what i remember it working.
i need to play more with it

intel 620 for me just flat out didnt work, got to menu but something odd and unresponsive at that poimt.
