Road Cycling

Just stubbed the 3 toes on my right foot from middle to pinky.
Obviously it was following by excruciating pain which usually subsides after a few minutes of hopping around. However this time the pain has got worse and painful to bend along with a lot of swelling.

This is very frustrating if they’re broken!

So, been messing about with the new Garmin today and setting up my screens how I like them. I had assumed my bike didn’t have the Shimano bluetooth adapter thingy in it however I downloaded the lame titled ETube Ride app to see if I can find one. It connected and then the Garmin found the Di2 and I paired it, can now see battery level and gear selection on a screen. Good so far.
Now I want to change my Di2 top buttons to allow me to flick through the pages. GP Lama has this video however my app doesn’t look anything like that.
It is possible that in the five years since he recorded this vid, Shimano have made their app so much worse but all I get is this screen.

I cant really do much from there, only option I have is to remove the device. When I go to add sensor on there it just finds my Tacx bike and a Stages bike, bizarrely. I've not seen that in a bluetooth list before, maybe a neighbour has bought one recently. There isn’t much in the settings page either, just an option to allow the Di2 switches to navigate within this app and this app looks pretty awful tbh.

When I navigate in the Garmin to the sensors section it lets me get as far as this but I cant change anything from here.

Is this just a case of I have done what it allows and need the Dfly wireless unit to do more? And this is confirmation my bike doesn't have one fitted? Bought it (barely) used FYI.

Hmm, are you sure the other units are 'awake'? You should have each unit listed, like front d, and each lever as they will each have their own firmware to update. I can't remember if the rear d should add those when you connect, or if you add them individually. It think they should appear with the rear d. Maybe either try and update it's firmware, or remove and add it again?

@Vandle this is what my etube app on iOS looks like

Starting to pray they're not broken and it's minimal damage. The bruising isn't as bad as i'd expect from a break. More of a light bluey colour rather than full on black so i'm clinging to some hope.

Chaps, just had a quidco payment drop and tempted to treat myself to a Silca wax bundle. I use the Silca oil based lube at the moment, which works well, but I'm tempted to join the darkside of waxing. But I have a few questions:

1. I presume the strip chip thing only really applies for new chains?
2. For a current chain, is there a specific procedure you must follow to re-wax it? ie. strip it back? Or just clean it a bit, then chuck it back into the melted wax?
3. Presumably no one has issues with taking off and on a chain repeatedly? (I do this already with a quick link, but probably not as much as I would if re-waxing)
4. The Silca top up lube is just for general 'top up? How do you know you need to top up, and not start again?
EDIT: one more - if it rains/is wet, will that strip pretty much everything off?

I'm sure it's pretty simple stuff really, but read a few contradictory things before.

I got quite soaked this morning.

needless to say, when i set out, it started hammering it down, when I got to work, it stopped

Luckily the sun has come out and weather has cleared, and looks to be ok for the ride home this evening

Waxed chains?! You must be a pro!

Yes. It will only work with the factory applied grease.

As in a current chain which has already been waxed once? Just rinse with boiling water, dry off and then re-wax. If you mean a chain which has been used for some time with traditional lubricants? You'll need to properly strip the chain with a few chemicals.

They say you can get away using a Shimano quick link a few times. I'm going to do a deep wax again in the next few weeks so I'll find out for you!

You'll be able to tell as your drivetrain will go from being fairly silent to making a lot of noise. I use the drip on wax the night before I'd want a ride to give it time to work it's magic. If you do a few top ups within short time of each other it penetrates enough to be almost as good as an immersion wax.

I've ridden when it's damp/light rain and it's been fine. A quick rub down with a rag when home and that's about it. I haven't ridden it in a proper downpour yet.

I don't really care for the performance gains but having it quiet and clean is worth the hassle in my eyes.

I mainly wax my chains for the cleanliness and extra life that it gives your drivetrain over traditional lube. The watt savings are so minimal that tucking my elbows in 2 degrees would save me more watts.

haha just like the idea of not having that black mess everywhere. Although I don't get that much with the Silca Synergetic stuff (but I do clean the drivechain a lot)

Thanks @Junglist Might take a 'punt'. Can get the entire kit + bottle of the super secret top up for £137.

Like the idea of having two chains too, a swap them over whenever one is done - rinse and repeat.

Yeh I'm not fussed about any performance marginal gains, just a cleaner and simpler to clean drivetrain really (and heard it can last longer).

Only main thing that I'm not sure about is the range. In season, a week could easily be 200-300 miles of riding, so I'm not sure even I can be assed doing it every week. But I guess thats where the top up wax product comes in?

For what it’s worth I bought temperature controlled body wax kit for £22 which perfectly fits a chain.

It never gets old just grabbing a handful of chain for no reason other than you can

Just went to check on the punctureI had repaired the other day, and its solid as a rock. Unfortunately now the front wheel seems to have one! This is bizarre as it didn't previously. Has anyone had an innertube perish over time? The bike was last used in September 23 and just standing still since in the house.

pump it up and see how long it lasts, may just be a normal "airloss" from a tube and you've only noticed once it got past certain point.
