NHS Health Check over 40

I had the over 50s check up not too long back. Everything came back fine, far better than expected actually. I weigh myself daily on my smart scales and I usually do my BP and sats daily too, but that's more to waste a bit time at work than anything else.

(Male,56) I recently got invited to do the bowel cancel check for the over 60s. I was a bit worried, thinking I woul be one of the few that called in to have a further investigation.

Luckily, the test result came back saying no further screening was necessary at this time :)

...and that the results given didn't mean I didn't have bowel cancer and that I could develop it in future. They also gave a list of things to watch out for, like bloating, change of bowel habits etc, half of which I already have.

It's been a few years since I had a diabetes check, is this part of the regular Health Check/over 40's that they do? I think last time, it came back 'borderline', but since then, I've changed my eating habits a bit.

I have a pretty thorough check up every 12 months at my GP surgery because of the meds I'm on, I get full bloods done, weight, blood pressure readings, and electro cardiogram. Been having it since about 4 years ago (I'm 50 now).

The GP surgery actually get a bit annoyed with me if I delay having it. I'm too heavy but don't need to be weighed to know that, I'm working on it. My prolactin is high but coming down slowly. Other than that I'm doing ok considering my pretty poor diet and lack of focused exercise although I do have a physical job. We shouldn't take our health for granted, I need to get my diet and weight in check.

I had a bowel cancel check kit in the post 1 month ago. Still waiting for that perfect poo to post through letterbox as it's not often you get a chance like this. I wasted a great opportunity yesterday as I didn't realize that it must not touch the water.
I rush to get the test kit read the instructions and it was a no-go.
The look on their faces when they send you a test kit with a pre paid envelope, but you return it via parcel force large box

I was invited for one when I turned 40 but it was covid times when I turned 50 so I had to ask for one. I had one last year after a year off work and was surprised to see I had lost weight

FYI it’s not always your GP so don’t wait too long for them like I did. For me it was nimbus care. Quick google for your area should tell you where to direct your request.

How do I get an NHS Health Check?

If you’re aged 40 to 74 and do not have a pre-existing health condition, you should be invited to an NHS Health Check by your GP or local council every 5 years.

If you think you are eligible but have not been invited, contact your GP surgery to find out if they offer NHS Health Checks or contact your local council to find out where you can get an NHS Health Check in your area.

Some pharmacies also offer NHS Health Checks.

so long as you dont over think results or OSD / excessive worrier.

my Dad is banned from the blood pressure meter...
takes reading see high
take another reading see its got higher..
takes another reading see its even higher...
Doctor has banned him, mum has banned him, they BOTH banned him!
Mums taken the BP Monitor away and hidden it safely out of sight

it states it results may be seen before your GP/consultatn has contacted you about it.
its very easy to over think things and worry.

Just did my poo stick last week. Quite quick turnaround and thankfully no follow up required :)

Ah, I didn't think about that. Yeah, I can see how health anxiety can be an issue with some people.

Worth noting some places don't offer this, you will likely need to enquire. I know I had a conversation with my friends on this, they had no idea what I was on about

I was offered (and had) one in 2013 when they first came out. They've never offered me one since.

EDIT: not sure why my post count remains permanently at 0.
