BMW and M Power Owners

Can anyone help identify a rattling noise that has started in the engine bay of my 330Ci. It's a 2006 automatic model with 126000 miles on it and just in the past month a rattling noise has started to appear when idling. It's more prominent when idling.

When in park the rattling/ticking noise is obvious but is more obvious when putting it in drive. If you take a look at this video you will hopefully hear what I mean.

Appreciate any advice on the matter.

Thanks

Sounds like something has come loose and is now vibrating. Or a bearing of some sort

Hard to say

Anyone had any experience with the Z4 M40i?

The American market version makes 400bhp due to the map on the same engine, but we only get 330ish, that seems like a lot of power for the money.
B58 so brilliant engine. Noise not so much. Never driven this model of Z4, but I've read it's more of a cruiser than a proper sports car. But I guess everything is getting bigger and more comfortable these days..
Apparently the Supra is good but that's a tin-top obviously. Happy to (not) help :D

do you obsess over the most inconsequential details this much in all other aspects of your life? It must be incredibly tiring
I'd thought he may be indirectly asking about having car play ... which was Diagro issue on his similar aged car where (albeit) non AUC had had an illicit wireless & firmware patch to try and support it.

Need a 2nd car soon (have a b9 A4 Avant currently as our main car) and we are considering a 2019 Z4 30i. It’s mostly for my wife, she wants a sporty convertible. Test drove an 2020 ND2 MX5 and 2020 Audi TT 40 TFSI followed by the Z4, which she loved.

Any thoughts on these? They seem to be sitting around £25-27k for what we want. Tech, Comfort and M Sport Plus package ideally.

Something like this, but probably not white and a little less mileage.

Since posting I have managed to get the car up on the ramp to try and identify some rattles from the underside of the car. I think its mostly the brake dust cover, have already fixed the same issue on the offside front wheel, so will do the same fix for the near side. But looks like the exhaust has a rattle and a bit of movement. Also just wondering what the flap inside the exhaust is for, thinking as you press the accelerator the flap maybe opens?

Also when looking at the car, took a look at the boot floor ofr any obvious cracks and nothing obvious, or are we looking in the wrong place?

For £27k get a Jaguar F Type R with the 5.0L V8. Wouldn't bother with the Z4 30i personally.

Just to be clear, we aren’t looking for the most performance possible for our budget. The M40i Z4 for example isn’t a contender. 0-60 in 5.4s is plenty quick enough.

Not sure on the exhaust flaps .

Exhaust rattle can be heard at the rear of the car sometimes and could be something like the rubber bung which holds it secure.. if this has come half loose the noise when idling is usually a tinny noise.

There could also something at the front of the car near the engine which would be resonating backwards.

I always start looking at the rear of the car underneath and work way forwards

ouch! do they command such a premium?
are you looking at the f33 or g23?

This was what I was looking at.

Think we have settled on the Z4.

Christ almighty that’s an ugly car, caught me off guard :P

Z4 is a much better purchase.

Quick Q, would it be fair to assume that f80 M3 wheels would go happily on an F31 335d?

It currently has original 19" alloys but they were coated black by the previous owner which wouldn't be my first choice although I don't hate it, what I do hate is one is starting to flake so I figured why not go OEM plus?

Conscious they're a little bit wider I think.

The offset is wrong & they will stick outside the wheel arches. You can get aftermarket wheels that LOOK like the OEM wheels but don't have this issue. Also tyre selection is important to try and keep the same rolling radius. This will ensure you have less diff issues & the speedo is correct
