Don't know why anyone would entertain the idea of paying the same or more to a random scalper on an auction site when you can fairly easily get one in one of the regular stock drops now from a proper retailer.

If I was paying so much for a new card I wouldn't want the warranty to potentially be compromised.

Yeah. Scalpers on ebay seem to be slowing down and the markup is not as bad. Also there are retailers that have cheaper non-XT models than OCUK, but they are still available. So it's slowing down, but the coveted low end "9070 XT" still seems to be selling well.

The problem for Nvidia is the potential customer base for a 5070/5070ti performing card rapidly decreasing as the 9070 series continues to sell rapidly.

They may find later this year that the amount of people who want one of those, even at RRP is quite small.

Personally, I think in a few weeks everywhere will start getting plentiful stock, The worst online retailers will have no option but to drop their prices also.

I've never understood this. Its ridiculously easy with the internet to find the correct/proper price of something.

Why don't people take 10 seconds to Google it and see if they can find it cheaper and new from an actual retailer?

As someone who spends a lot of time on forums, I've given up trying to understand why so many people are incapable of a 10s search.
 
Forums are a dangerous place. It gives us ideas on what next to spend our hard earned on.

Thankfully I'm past that stage (mostly).
Ive spent way too much building engines, buying turbos, suspension, goodies made from carbon fibre etc. Makes me shudder what I've actually spent. I'm no longer a member of that forum :cry:

Edit: Come to think about it, Gibbo was there too.

Keep in mind that NVIDIA is being SUPER deceptive in that graph at 2:20. For the first 5 weeks of the 40 series ONLY the 4090 was out (released Oct 12, 2022). The 4080 came out a month later (released Nov 16, 2022), the 4070ti came out 2 months after that (released Jan 5, 2023), and 4070 came out 3 months after that (released Apr 13, 2023). In that same 5 week time frame we've had the 5090, 5080 (released 30 Jan 2025), 5070ti (released 20 Feb, 2025) and 5070 (released March 5th, 2025).

Nvidia don't care. Their gaming GPU revenue is microscopic compared to the money from the AI rush.

I am quite confident I will be able to buy 9070 xt at msrp soon. When exactly, I don't know, perhaps in a few months but I can wait, my 3070 will have to do in the meantime, it's still under warranty, delivers above minimum I expect so not a problem.

This isn't a mining era where there were no graphics at all. You can still easily get other, decently performing cards, just don't panic and don't fall into FOMO atmosphere, you may only telling yourself you need this particular card right now, chill.

The MSRP price isn't low at all, they make good money at that level, just the margin isn't anywhere near the ai chips AMD and Nvidia are selling at but do you really want to pay that much as their appetite is clearly unlimited. Reportedly the H100 is being sold with 1000% mark-up yet the 'ai' part is still a bubble and not many buyers are ever going to see their money back.
They just spend thousands because the others do so and keep saying it's worth it. It is, but only for some.

By coughing up and paying more than you should, you are participating in plotting the next gen price increase.

That's a self sabotage.

Human nature is horrible, you always expect 'the others' to refrain even though, you know this is the right thing to do. I refuse to pay more than the nominal price.Period.
