Finally got round to finishing my new build over the weekend what idle temps are you all getting, mines is idling about 45-50c and maxing out at 70c when running Cinebench, I’m using the Lian Li hydroshift AIO is this about normal?

Load temps look ok but idle should be a bit lower. Do your clock speeds drop when at idle?

Can't remember if it's the high performance power plan or something else that keeps the clocks high, even at idle.

Mine is idling low to mid 30s, when gaming anywhere from 45-55c on average depending on load.

Check CPU Usage when idling and make sure nothing in the background is doing anything. Can use task manager.

RGB software and software like Amory crate etc can cause higher temps if running\installed

Similar temps here...

Mine will settle at between 35-38c once the liquid temp normalises and when ambient is around 22c.
After a long gaming session it will idle around 38c and wont drop for a good 5 to 10 minutes it will then start to come down.
Gaming doesn't go above 60c - 420mm and 280mm external rad solution - Optimus CPU Block and Dual D5 on very low speed.

I’ve just received and installed the cpu, for some reason it won't boot in to Windows. Resetting the Bios using the clear CMOS button allows me to get in to the Bios, but no further. CPU is recognised, but as soon as I exit the Bios, fans spin up and that's it. Been talking to OCUK support, they checked a few things and got me to try some things like removing and reseating the ram without success. Unfortunately they think there maybe a fault with the CPU, so it's being RMA'd. I'm using a X670E-A Gaming WiFi (with 64mb G-Skill ram) that I updated to the latest Bios revision a few days ago along with the latest chipset. I've reset the Bios, removed the power from the PC, even tried a previous Bios. Old 7800X3D reinstalled and boots without any problems, anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Does the boot drive get detected OK?

Yes, when I select it manually it does actually boot in to Windows, but when I restart the PC, the fans just spin up and nothing happens, I have to hit the clear CMOS button that will allow me to get back to the Bios. I know there is some 'memory training' that goes on, but have left the PC powered up for several minutes at OCUK supports request without success.

It’s sounds like a MBR issue. Have you tried doing a repair from windows recovery?

Works with all OS including W11

Something else to look at

“Go in to your BIOS/UEFI settings. Chances are the motherboard is, by default, trying to boot in UEFI mode. Look for an option to enable Legacy/MBR mode. These options will usually be found in the boot settings menu of your firmware settings. If it is booting in Legacy mode already, then change it to UEFI.”

No I haven't. I'm running Window 11 upgraded from a retail version of Windows 10. I'll have to look in to that a bit more as I only have the original Window 10 USB stick. DPD are picking up the CPU tomorrow now, so not sure how much time I will have to further fault diagnose. I've now got my 7800X3D reinstalled so that I can use it.

Have a look at the added bit in my post

The boot record is not picky about which processor you are using and should work irrespective of CPU. I would guess it's something else but it doesn't hurt to try it you have plenty of time.

Quick question, would that affect a 9950 and not a 7800? Reinstalling my 7800 the PC works okay.
It’s more about the symptoms. It shouldn’t really but I know when I replaced mine there was something about corruption with the bios on the first boot. May be the uefi is different.

I would certainly try the repair using the recovery

It's all packaged up for DPD now as they are collecting tomorrow. If OCUK do not find a problem, then I may end up trying a fresh Windows install unfortunately. If they do find a problem, then I've got a 1-2 week wait for a replacement.

I have to say though, my experience with OCUK support has been great so far, fortunately I've never had to use them in the past.
