Half Life 2 RTX

On a 9070XT, happy enough to play through at 1920 with no upscaler - can not stand any of the oil painting smearing with either NVIDIA or AMD GPUs.

1920 res
Upscaler off, render quality High, 25-30fps
Upscaler off, render quality Medium, 30-40fps
Upscaler off, render quality Low, up to 60fps

It's grainy, sure but it's the only peek into the future I'm going to get with this spec PC :D

Doesn't look that impressive to me for the perf hit :p

One of the problems of modding older games like this, especially without full source and original raw assets and/or a lot of time to rebuild levels from scratch it is hard to truly show off what PT is capable of.

That's the issue the image quality is very grainy unless you use a high resolution but even the 5090 only gets 20fps running HL2 RTX at 4k

So really this is a less a videogame and a more a tech demo used to make YouTube videos

Very playable on a 4080 Super at 1440p even with settings above ultra.

Well I am having a blast, 150+ fps, playing wonderfully and looks glorious

Supposedly this is a very good for testing your gpu overclocks, no crashes at all on the 5080 with +300 on core and +2000 on memory with a 90% power limit.

@TNA

You will be glad to know 12gb vram is enough too :p Looks like the rtx remix texture streaming system works very well compared to portal rtx. I haven't see my vram go above 13.5gb so far.

Is it though?! See my screenshot where 11GB of VRAM is used by the game alone, meaning 18GB VRAM total :p Which means the game will be swapping to system RAM on sub 16GB cards I guess?

Extracting the studio drivers now to manually clean all the crap and just leave drivers in it to install :D

You should know by now.... :p Games can and do use more vram if the vram is there and the game/engine is well optimised. I saw this first hand when coming from the 3080 to the 5080, games like silent hill 2 and others played just fine showing 8gb (dedicated), no performance stutters, textures all loading in fine, swap in the 5080... exactly the same experience in terms of textures and frame time performance, however, vram was showing 11/12+gb dedicated vram so you would have expected there to be the vram symptoms in those games with the 3080 but there wasn't i.e. the games scaled depending on what you have. The likes of UE 5, snowdrop engine are extremely good for their vram memory management in the sense that they scale well, also, as shown by multiple review sites now, nvidia handle memory management much better than amd so I am sure they have applied the same kind of optimisation to their remix program, they did make that a key talking point about this version of remix too.

Of course, you are very correct for **** optimised games, they will use everything without proper management so gpus with lesser vram will **** the bed e.g. like the last of us on release before it got patched :o

OMG. It actually did crash.

Asked me to update to latest drivers :p

IIRC, you have some overclock/undervolt profiles? If still crashing, be worthwhile trying stock, game is crashing a lot of folks overclocked/undervolted systems.

That or time for a gpu with more than 12gb

Nah man. Didn't crash. Just got that message pop up as I am on older drivers. Updated drivers problem solved.

Makes me laugh people saying this is unplayable. As evidenced, it's perfectly playable on a variety of hardware at the appropriate settings that your GPU is capable of... It's almost like people don't realise you can adjust the settings. And incredibly there are still people who refuse to use upscaling even with the latest transformer model :o

Will try just a power limit in MSIAB instead of using the UV/OC profile as yeah random crashes. I best it still crashes though as it seems game related considering no other game crashes!
