What did you do to your bike today?

Worked on one 3 of the 4 exhaust headers today on the LH side (other side planned tomorrow). Couple of rounds of Dr. Downpipe and about 40-60 mins of effort and below is the result.

I am satisfied with it for now. Will probably do another round. The Scourer they provided to agitate the dirt was not good at all. I used another tough one that we have from Aldi. Needed to use a steel wire brush on the third pipe, which was the most corroded.

Any other suggestions are welcome to improve their condition. I do understand that they are never going to look pristine. :)

Oven cleaner usually works great on the coating they put on exhausts. If you've wire brushed it you might be down to the metal though, so it'd be a case of either repainting or a continual battle with rust.

I wire brushed only the third one as it was really bad. Will think about repainting them, won't be doing it myself though. Probably next year. I ride in dry weather anyway.

A few bits in anticipation of the new bike arriving tomorrow...

Tail tidy from J-Tech (crazy cheap and always great fit), smaller plate, keyring, a sock for the brake reservoir with a (edited) reminder to not kill myself, new gloves, and from AliExpress, a link pipe so I can fit any end can I want & a seat cowl, both which arrived in 7 days!

There was a 44Teeth video a few years back, where BVG was having an S1000R cleaned, and the chap doing it used some magic spray to clean the pipes up - but they censored what it was.

I watched the video recently and that bit was no longer edited out -
turns out the secret spray was diluted sulphuric acid.... not tried it myself, iI have tried the old harpic trick though - either way, hose down with lots of clean water after.

For the Harpic trick I think I will have to take the headers out, which I am honestly scared to do. :D
My exhaust headers appear to be in much worse condition than the ones in the videos. For now I am satisfied, until next time.

Edit: Guess will try this. Looked neat.

RH side done yesterday and polished the end cans too. Autosol is magic, barely took any effort. :D

This was my first time doing anything more than washing my bike and I am happy that I managed to do an ok'ish job. What struck me after this little job was this new feeling about this bike is genuinely mine now. It was weird, I felt it when I parked it in the garage and as I was putting the cover back on.

I just brushed it on, then rinsed it off with loads of water.... probably wasn't great for the driveway (oh, and environment)

Didn't you have one previously?
I've got a full Black widow decat system for that sat in my shed.
Had the 2019 model, the same as you had - gen 2 iirc, this is the next one along their lineup; would have loved the saucy new one in blue/flo green - but they're 17k or something
