*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Hopefully many similar titles will see a locked 60fps ( or at least a 40 fps VRR mode ) with the new console. That said, I still found Echoes to be a fun game despite the occasional frame rate drops on the overworld map.
I enjoyed both Zelda games despite the frame issues.

Has there been any mention of VRR? Would be nice to have.

I kinda wish consoles would target 1080p 120fps rather than 4k 60fps.
Just my gut feeling, but I don't think Nintendo will be reaching for 4K in most games ( 3rd party titles may, but with a reduced frame rate ). They'll aim for 1440p / 60 fps ( upscaled from 1080p ) I reckon. And to be honest, I'll be happy with that. Their games tend to have a certain cartoon aesthetic / animation style which doesn't really benefit much from higher resolutions.

I'm not even convinced they'll be aiming for 1440p - lets not forget it's a portable device with the sort of screen size that makes anything over 1080p somewhat pointless and Nintendo will not want to create significantly disparate experiences between portable and docked - i'm expecting them to target 1080p at 30-60fps in portable mode and be leaning on some sort of DLSS to upscale that at a reasonable quality in docked mode whilst targeting 60fps.

If we're expecting Switch 2 to deliver 120fps or 4K, then we'll need to accept the games will probably look pretty much exactly as they do now, as all the extra power of the new device will be spent on generating more resolution or more frames, rather than better looking graphics.

I just hope there's a title I really want to play because there is absolutely nothing on the horizon I'm interested in elsewhere.

It's Nintendo you asking too much when it comes to pushing graphics

I am asking too much but, also… look at the date of this thread:

Yup, I'm in similar position. Other than Ghost of Yutei not a lot else appeals to me, even GTA6 ... kinda meh on the franchise as a whole. Still waiting to see what Nintendo bring to the table with the Switch 2 launch, beyond Metroid Prime 4 and presumably the next iteration of Mario Kart. That said, this gap in quality game releases has allowed me to play some of my backlog on Steam.

Yeah I'm not invested in GTA at all, couldn't even finish V. There are 3 tiers I'm expecting from the direct which I've ranked for myself.

Tier 1: A new Mario (platformer) and or Zelda surprise launch with the console. Bonus for OLED, if not, console will be purely docked.

Tier 2: Remaster of an older Zelda available from Launch and a new one TBC release.

Tier 3: Just Mario Kart 9 and a short peak at a new Mario or Zelda with no hint of release date or 'coming 2027' etc.

I game much less in the summer but Nintendo games seem to fit all year round for me for whatever reason.

The games that have the most absolute garbage graphics, performance etc are the Pokémon games. It’s like they don’t even try. Any other platform than the switch and the game would get absolutely destroyed for being so lazy.

They don't try and Nintendo fanboys are the most fervent in their devotion to accepting utter crap at full price. No the Switch doesn't have a powerful GPU but we can and should expect better than people like Pokemon deliver. That said, we get the games we deserve and half assed pieces of crap deliver 98% of the revenue a well developed and polished game would, so they don't bother.

They do already lulz on the 1080p part, not the 120fps apart from call of duty

The vast majority of console games are using resolutions closer to 1080p and in some cases there are games using 720p; they are too slow to get 120fps though

So I don't realy get your point; sure 120fps would be nice but we have consoles games struggling to get 60fps at 720p... as for 4k 60, that's not even a target in nearly every case - the number of 4k games on consoles is tiny

I just can’t get past those bezels. Everything else looks great though so I’m still going to give the event a go.
