Yes the cutter is a brilliant starter ship to try out and play the game
Great. I've been watching afew youtube videos to get more of an idea and certainly like what I see.

Just go in to this knowing its very much in development, its unfinished and likely less stable that you would like. Many people can't get enough of this game while others have a hard time with it.

Failing at the first hurdle! I can't install the game. It gets to 2gb remaining on the base pack download and fails with error code 5008Currently have it downloading, looking forward to getting stuck in.

Out of interest where are you trying to install the game? Is it on the OS drive or a secondary drive?
Looking at your high level PC specs in your sig I assumed you were installing onto a SSD not a mechanical drive.
I'm trying to install to C drive that has the OS and its a NVME M2 so shouldn't be any problem there.
It's currently downloading again so see what happens this time

I'd recommend to also set your page file to 64GB min and max (32GB if you don't have the spare space). It's commonly recommend to have your OS and page file on the fastest drive and games on the 2nd fastest but that depends on individual setups. And if you're on nvidia then set low latency mode (at least to ON) and prefer maximum performance in the control panel > Program settings.

Absolutely worth a look. Even if you just mooch around in the arena at some of the maps to get a feel for it. It really can change from patch to patch, currently, but when it's working well (enough), you'll find plenty to explore just flying around without even bothering with missions. Maybe grab a guide as well.
