*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

No way I'd shell out that much for a kids console but I guess the days of cheap hardware are gone.

Still you can get a second hand rog ally, a bunch of discount games and a switch emulator for the same price.

Imagine getting one for your kids and them smashing it on the kitchen tiles in the first hour of Xmas day.

I can stomach 300 but 430, woof.

It's all because of inflation, no profiteering going on at all , pretty crazy of the overall price increase on all the stuff , game £75 being the standout

The console cost I can swallow, but the games cost. Christ... They even want money for the Switch 2 'manual' title.

Not crazy excited about the lineup. I've been quietly hyped for Switch 2 for many years, but that Direct has killed my enthusiasm.
Yeah i did think it was misely of them to not include their version of Astros Playroom for free, like Sony did.

Next issue : I'm reading online that with some games the physical cartridges will contain a digital key only ... not actual game files. For example, apparently the Bravely Default HD remaster, which is only 11Gb in size therefore small enough to fit on a cartridge, will be a digital key. That blows.

Isn't that the case for some Switch games now? That the cartridge does not include the whole game.

Given the games announced coming to the Switch 2, I'd hardly call it a "kids" console at this point but each to their own I guess.

No idea, according to @Plainsong he's received an invitation already. I haven't received anything yet ... I, too, have an online subscription ( for over 5 years ), have participated in multiple surveys etc ( last being a few days ago ) and have hundreds if not thousands of hours of playtime on my console. The unknown is how many consoles will the UK store receive ? If it's not many, then it's possible you may have to sleep, eat & breathe Nintendo daily to qualify for an invite. A lot of people are going to qualify for the bare minimum criteria on the website.
My situation sounds the same as yours, no idea how they are picked for selection though. No doubt we’ll find out in the next few days.

I’m on my phone but here is the text from the email.

Oh **** off, Nintendo.

This is just Nintendo going full Nintendo.

Agreed. Never go full Nintendo.

And… their version of Elden Ring is called… ‘Tarnished Edition’….

TARNISHED!?!

I am happy with the price as I figured £350-£400 so I was thinking that kind of ball park already. Makes sense to me anyway.
Yup, the console price was pretty much what I expected. Disappointed at the increase in price for games though, and I still want more info re: OG Switch games and whether they'll see any uplift in performance or not.

The price for me is also good. I would go for the Mario Kart World bundle, a few other games, pro controllers and a case. It will probably total £700-800 which is keen but I expect a long run from this console like Switch 1.

Edit: Plus a micro sd express card. How much is 1TB?

I remember paying £449 for a Xbox One with the Kinect…that was like 12 years ago?!

If you look at the timeline of Nintendo console launches and prices, you can see why people were perhaps expecting it to stay somewhat lower...

N64 1996 £249 but almost immediately dropped to £149, Gamecube 2002 £129, Wii 2006 £179, WiiU 2012 £249(ish), Switch 2017 £280.

£395 feels like quite a step up considering Nintendo haven't been involving themselves in the standard 'how powerful is the new console' arms race since the Gamecube underperformed.

That's perhaps influenced a little because the Switch lifespan has been so long - £395 would perhaps not feel quite as jarring now if there had been a 2022 console at £350ish...

I've had a Nintendo online sub since the beginning but I've not played any games recently so I am not surprised I have not got an invite.

All I am going to say is I absolutely nailed it on the price. Nintendo like money at the end of the day.
