I called the retentions. Got a crap deal still. Don't think it's my year. Just gave up and stuck with the price they gave
After being "out of contract" for ages I eventually got round to trying to get a better deal (complicated by my getting TNT sports in current prior contract and seemed that that would be a significant addition to any renewal) so see they were offering a reasonable renewal deal (~30% off previous price) so went on chat to confirm that this was like-for-like renewal (renewal deal didn't mention 2nd box etc) ... VM person said "let me see what the best deal I can get for you is" (felt hopeful at this) .... after about 20 mins of "this is taking longer than expected please wait" they gave me an offer which was slightly more expensive than I was always paying with less things included! Said that this was worse than my out-of-contract deal and significantly worse than the website recontracting offer.
 
Virgin Media Business seems to be returning a "yes we can provide service here" result to every address that you check, regardless of whether it's in the VM service footprint. So if you were bored and fancied seeing what happens when they accept an order but clearly can't provide service then now is your chance.
 
Put in our cancellation today, disconnection is the 30th April. When is best to make a new order in my name? (was in partners name) Retentions didn't even try to give a better deal.

Have been told we will get pre paid packaging to return old equipment.

My deal will be ending soon and I'm looking for advice based on the difficulty people seem to have getting a good renewal price. If I can't get a good deal can I cancel for a month or so (I can use a 4G router) and then come back and get a new user deal again or will I just get offered the same as an ex-customer?

I'm in the same boat (nearly). Renewal in 2 months.

Going to cancel and open an account in the wife's name. I would assume it's best to just keep checking their calendar and organise it so that the new service starts the day after the original one is disconnected?

Hopefully someone could confirm this!

Yeah thats way I have seen said. Its easier to deal with it when you not the only adult at property.

They used to have a thing where you could not rejoin as a new customer from the same address within 6 months. Not sure if that is still a thing?

I'm trying to help my retired elderly mum with her VM bill which is currently £138p/m (M250, Tivo Mixit TV inc. Sky Cinema and, Kid Pick f'knows why, and Anytime Chatter) and with her now being on her own, it's a bit much for her every month.
Current deals she's had via webchat are £104p/m (M250, Anytime Chatter and TV360 + Netflix minus the kids Pick and Sky Cinema) or £89.75 (M250, Anytime Chatter and Tivo MixIt TV 3, which is the basic channels i believe), all on new 18-month contracts.
To me though, these still sound pretty poor compared to what others are getting especially for a not-in-contract 24+ year customer (originally NTL).

I haven't really had to deal with VM for while but for someone that wants Tivo/360 (ideally with Discovery channels and Sky Collection), Anytime Chatter (all inc. calls) and some form of internet, what would a decent monthly price be?

And is it still the case of calling and trying to get 'tier 2' agents or retentions for deals?

The only way you’ll get a better deal for her if she cancels and waits for the retentions call. Either that or someone else takes out a new service after she’s cancelled.

She did call Sky and they offered her Sky Q/Signature, 150Mbit and Talk Anytime for £80p/m which seems a far better deal.

Try logging into the account online and as she is out of contract then there should be a "renewal contract" offer which (if like I got) will do the same options for possibly £30 a month less. Dealing with the online chat people seems useless as when I went to them to check a couple of details of the renewal they offered to find the "best deal" for me and came back 20 mins later with less features for more than I was already paying .... when I pointed out I already had a renewal offer for a better level of service £30+ cheaper a month they just said "take that offer then". Prime example of **** take VM upping the bill every year to people out of contract that might not chase better prices.
I can’t see how the price got that high for that package any other way, really should be some law to stop prices getting out of control for people that might struggle to keep check of things.

Work out a price on VM website for what you want and then phone to negotiate a deal.
I’m really glad to be rid of VM myself with the in contract price rises and the yearly contract song and dance.

I've passed everything along to her and i did say to give it a day or so and then to call them to see if someone on the phone will offer a better deal whilst stressing that she may have to go down the cancel/retentions route. I did also give her the UK retention team telephone number for the 'i missed a call from you' ruse if she did end up having to do that.

By the way, if she does decide to cancel, i assume there is a 14-day 'cool off' period for that?

£105 is the current renewal offer on her VM portal/dashboard, so that would be a £33 saving every month which is certainly better than nothing but it does seem to make the webchat "deals" even less of a deal imo.

First thing i mentioned to her the other day and she worked out the 'Bigger Combo bundle' (i believe that's TV360) + Anytime Chatter was £50p/m, which would have been brilliant, but she said the webchat agents weren't even remotely interested in getting a deal anywhere near that stating it was for new customers only and instead offered her a lot worse of a deal for £40p/m more :rolleyes:

Customers of broadband ISP Virgin Media (O2), specifically those still using some of the provider’s oldest routers (i.e. Hub 2 AC, Hub 2 and Hub 1), have recently become the latest group to receive a letter inviting them to upgrade to the HUB 4.0 (ARRIS TG3492LG-VMB) “at not extra” cost. This is because the old hardware no longer receives security updates.

I'm surprised that this old gear is still about.
