NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

What over clock is everyone getting? I've got +400mhz +2000 Memory and getting +16 fps 4k Uncharted, +10fps Returnal 4k. I need to do more tests to see if it's stable. But that would put it overclocking better than any 4090 I had.
Mines running 24/7 at 3200 ish MHz which is like +200 MHz for me. I can get up to 3300 ish if I juice it up but can’t be bothered and it’s not 100% stable. +2000 MHz on the memory too. Decent gains in performance seen as well!

I’m very happy with mine though if I had a diff model I’d probs lean more towards 2900 ish with fewer volts but mine runs sub 60c. And as the radiator is blowing out the front of my case, my body temperature gets to about the same level :D

Similar here. I have one setting that runs around 3270MHz +2000 memory overclock and around 350w, another that runs around 2950, same memory overclock but around 250w. It is quite nice tinkering and getting decent gains in power, I've been impressed with the 5080.

5080 Installed. Let's go! Only just fits.

I can't believe it's 2025 and there's still crying about RGB, but it's over dude, the market has spoken. Let people enjoy small pretty things. The idea that you're leaving performance on the table by having RGB is the most boomer **** that's ever been floated
that and triple lock pension policies which are on borrowed time

Upgraded to a 5090 yesterday which resulted in a stressful day of hard crashes and very underwhelming benchmark results. I knew about the pcie 5 problems but didn’t bother checking that until this morning as my mobo is gen 4 and presumed it would be set to that. Checked in gpu-z and for some reason the auto setting in bios had set it to pcie 1.1. I’ve now changed it to pcie 4 and it looks like problem solved. Benchmarks now in line with average 5090 scores and no crashes so far. Now time to do some undervolting.:D
Hi there, how are you getting on with the 5090 on Gen4? Is there much holding back from not being on gen5?
What CPU do you have?

I ask the above as I currently have gen4, 3090 with a 5090x CPU on game at 4k 120hz. So just wondering if i have best card for my system or there's a worthy upgrade?
Currently the card runs at 105c on the hotspot in NewWorld, so considering if to try and change all the pads, or sell and get a newer card. (Though this cost me £2,150 for the Suprim X in COVID)
I've heard of people undervolting cards, but would think less power, would mean less frames!?

Thanks and hope your enjoying your card.

So much for claims that 260w is "safe" for 12hwpr

First melted rtx5070
Yikes. While the PC is a bit fugly, I can't see anything obviously wrong in how it was installed. Looks like the damage was more severe on the cable than the connector, so I'm guessing one of those cases where all the power's going down one wire.

The 5090 is the first GPU that needs more than PCIe 3.0 x16 bandwidth
It will be years before a GPU needs more than PCIe 4.0

I wonder how much money is wasted on PCIE, GPUs can get by with older standards that are less susceptible to noise and require cheaper PCBs, but instead they want the latest PCIE gen which requires a more expensive PCB and the buyer gets zero benefit. PCIE generations only benefit storage drives now, so I'm not sure why GPUs keep using the latest standard when all it does is make GPUs more expensive for no benefit

At Nvidia's request, reviewers will not receive any 8gb 5060ti cards to review

Nvidia would prefer to hide the performance issues that the 8gb card has

The various Steve(s) will just have to buy one and regale us on just how awful and overpriced these cards really are.

It means more profits for Nvidia and board partners? Surely not.

Hi, I’m really enjoying the card thanks, it seems to be working perfectly on gen 4. Benchmarks at stock have average or slightly above scores. If I remember correctly, theres only 3 or 4 percent difference between 4 and 5 so its no big deal and I think theres been compatibility problems with 5 anyway.

You’ll be fine on pcie 4 but I’m not too knowledgeable on CPU’s, so wouldn’t want to say if yours is enough or not. I’ve got a 14700k, power limited and undervolted and although I was warned it would be a bottleneck at 1440p, it’s working well.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you upgrade from your gpu to a 5090, it’s a beast of a card. Definitely give undervolting a go though if you do. You’ll get around the same performance but less power used and less heat, also less chance of melting cables. I’ve undervolted and oveverclocked mine and now get increased performance over stock and reduced power draw.

Here’s a guide written by a forum member https://old.reddit.com/r/nvidia/com...olt_guide_better_than_stock_at_450w/?sort=new

Small favour to ask anyone who owns a 5070 specifically.

If possible could you run the standard CP2077 Benchmark with all settings on Ultra, No RT or Motion Blur and a resolution of 2560x1440.

Just trying to work out a base line to compare my 5070Ti Mobile against (which is basically the same GPU but with 5888 cores instead of 6144 and a lower TGP). Mobile reviews are very light on the ground (sans 5090M) and normal reviews either use a custom scene (but don't say what it is... TPU...) or aren't 100% clear on settings used (outside of just saying Ultra).

From reading around on the melty 5070 cable, the theory seems to be that there was a manufacturing defect on the connector, with one of the power pins pushed back inside the shell far enough that it likely came into contact with a sense pin, causing a short. The PSU was a new ATX3.1 model, so presumably the cable was also of the latest type.

Fully expect the 8GB model will make HUB present from a nearby tree
(Steve is sitting down in reviews for good products and standing for bad ones, recently pushing this meme for Nvidia cards by standing on a chair and standing on the roof of his house)

It has to be something like that, comes nowhere near 600 watts.

Only the 4090 and 5090 need to be kept an eye on.
