Its a shame that Windows10 is coming to its end...

Pet Peeve PSA: It's not DOS, that was a type of CLI OS that - outside niche use cases - went the way of the dodo 30 years ago. What you're talking about is command prompt.

I look forward to the next thread in 2035 where we can all moan about Windows 13 and how we wish we could stay on Windows 11.
Yeah I know it's command prompt but I like calling it dos.
And we won't look back longingly on win 11, ms have always released a good one followed by a bad one. Anyone hankering for win me?

I'll prob carry on using win10 for months or years after, thats until games wont run anymore on win10... Its just annoying that it will pester me to upgrade constantly after october, I hope someone comes up with a fix to stop the nagging messages

Yeah you can probably stop them. There'll be a command prompt for it. Windows stopping upgrades is a big bonus for win 10

Ive got a streaming pc that i use strictly for streaming movies, music, tv shows, & thats on Win10, which i need to give it a fresh reinstall before they pull the plug completely as it's just so much easier to use, my gaming pc is on Win11 & it's ok by and large, it does seem to be a bit bloatier & slower but as it's strictly gaming only i can live with that, tho it does need decluttering i must admit.

Maybe replace the PC with a video streaming box? HTPC are very 2000's

Ive just gone back to windows 10 after about 1-2yrs of using windows 11.... Going back to windows 10 just feels a lot cleaner, less bloated and faster and I wish it wasnt ending later this year as I much prefer it.. Who else prefers windows 10?
It's only the home/pro/ent versions going out of support (and the ent only if you don't pay for the additional years of support).

If you really like Windows 10 you can just switch to Windows 10 LTSC 2021 and stay in support until 2027/2033 depending on version. Realistically new games will start refusing to launch on Windows 10 long before that becomes an issue.

I'm confident I'll be fine on W10 until the end of next year if not longer. After that I'll fully transition to Linux. The only reason I'm still on Windows at all is due to gaming, fortunately Linux support in that regard has come along in leaps and bounds over the years and only looks to improve.

The Xbox app already complains that it's running on 21H2 which is not supported, so that could be one of the first things to stop working. I only installed a few apps and that was one of them, so the issue is likely more widespread already.

If you're going to continue to run an unsupported version of Windows as normal, you probably at least want to keep an eye each month on the various blog posts summarising the vulnerabilities that have been fixed (as there's a very high chance the same vulnerability will also exist in Windows10).

Eg: https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/blog/2025/4/8/the-april-2025-security-update-review

As mentioned legally using LTSC is not easy (unless a business or similar) or cheap.

Ive just upgraded to LTSC 2021, so I should be supported till 2032 now, plus Ive gained 11gb extra space aswel.. Thankyou for letting me know about LTSC...

I plan on keeping Windows 10 until we see what Windows 12 is like. As mentioned, we quite often get a good one, followed by a bad one. Fingers crossed for 12 (I'm not very hopeful though).

I miss Windows 2000 and I think it's funny when I think of using Windows 3.1 in school on old 386 and 486's at 25 and 33MHz :D

Nobody knows if we're ever going to get a Windows 12. Rumour was that instead of a Windows 12, Microsoft decided to make Windows 11 24H2 the big "update" for next few years. That turned out well.

In the original Windows 10 thread the fanboys were condescendingly telling me to look up what Windows as a Service meant and that Windows 10 wasn't really 10 but just Windows and there would never be a Windows 11, 12, etc. strangely enough they've gone very quiet of late.

EDIT: Though some of them are permabanned now.
