*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Without being too graphic, what are you experiencing? I've seen a few others on It that don't seem to have been affected.

Extreme appetite suppression: I'd say to the point where I can't eat more than half of what I did before. That sudden large reduction in calorie intake has left me with fatigue, I feel tired all the time now. For the first two days, my calorie intake was cut by around 80%, but improved by day 3

Nausea: No vomiting but I feel nauseous all the time even after taking anti nausea meds

General stomach issues: Extreme constipation, along with cramps and bloating

I think sauerkraut is magic. Much less bloated over the last couple of days after making another batch at home.

Have been suckered into the silly Apple Watch activity rings - have been doing a 10 min HIIT most evenings to make my quota. Time in the gym for cycling is so variable, it’s really frustrating.

Maintaining weight rather than losing, but considering the chocolate consumption of late, I can’t complain.

GLP-1 agonists are great and will hopefully really help the population get started with weight loss. They’re not a forever solution, but might help to reset eating habits. If they’re working, then carry on!

I seem to have stalled at 14st 11lb - but clothes are getting looser - tried my best suit on, which I haven't worn since the Grand National in 2018. Really pleased it's less snug, but still a way off fitting into the rest of my pre-2016 wardrobe.

Looking forward to getting back to running, badminton and proper weight training again.

Weight has been up and down since COVID where I’ve not been able to sustain a proper routine, mostly due to constant injuries from football and running.

Its taken me a while but worked on my technique for running and ditched footie permanently.

Pre COVID I dropped 20kg in 7 months from just eating less + exercising more. Put on 7kg since then and have danced around 104 ish for a while (3 years or so).

Much bulkier now though as I wasn’t doing the weights pre COVID.

Very hard sustaining the fitness with long commutes!

It's ok, we went to Ikea on Saturday. Bought a Daim cake and seems my wife doesn't like it so i have just finished off the last bit. That's around 2000kcal of cake :(

Ate so much Daim cake when we were in Norway. Sooo goooood! Norwegian chocolate is amazing too and thankfully we’ve just about finished the supply off!

Just getting over the latest nursery plague, so activity levels dipped a bit, not helped by dehydration affecting a disc in my back  . Anyway, holiday coming up, not going to pay too much attention and will get back to strict calorie logging on my return. I’m mostly hoping the weather will be a bit better so I can get out on my road bike!

Interesting how little i post in this place when i'm not at work. However i am now back!

Had some blood work done at the beginning of March and had the results uploaded to my health portal late last week. Basically seemed to confirm what i've been thinking recently which is that my diet is decent 95% of the time, but then the other 5% is horrific. Some of the results put me just below the range for being pre-diabetic and also showed high cholesterol. Hoping this is the proper push to get things under control and make some bigger lifestyle changes. It's definitely been worse since moving to Spain with more meals/drinks out and whilst i probably binge drink less than i did in the UK, my actual alcohol intake is probably higher as it's now "a few" drinks multiple times a week rather than a lot once a week.

Finally seem to be over my broken toe to the point it's not restricting me doing things and i met up with a local social walking group on Friday for an easy walk which was quite nice. Because they're old it made me take it easy and enjoy the scenery rather than my usual fast hiking when i'm out on my own for pure fitness. Strolling around chatting was a nice change.

Being off the bike has also put me ~800km behind my annual goal. Whilst it's probably silly to try and claw that back too fast i'd still like to get the annual target if i can.

EDIT - Weight wise i've increased to 104.2kg as of this morning. Clothes are definitely getting a lot tighter which they hadn't done previously so we shall see if it actually makes a difference to my mentality!

Rest of the family has been ill this week meaning I'm running on fumes and just throwing whatever is in the cupboards and easy together for meals, but still managing to squeeze 30 minutes exercise in most days even if it's just jumping on the treadmill watching a series.
Still weight is holding, down to 211.8lb so 22.2lb down since Christmas just under 2lb a week which has always been a nice sustainable rate for me.
Goal was break 200lbs before we go away to Turkey on Sunday...holding around 205 for the last week or two :o Still that's a nice round 30lbs loss since Christmas, clothes fit again, feel much better, bloodwork is all good and I've been dropping into the 204s every now and again which I think is still my lowest adult weight so cant complain too much. Will be interesting to see the bump post holiday.

Definitely something that you want to keep at the forefront of your mind, so many people get bloodwork and then do nothing to resolve the potential issues it's flagging because they just think "well I'm in the okish range right now". Also nothing worse than having to dig out the old bigger clothes again or even worse start buying them because you threw them all out :D

Yeah, i'm in some of the bigger clothes i wore, dread to think how some of the smaller fitting ones would look. I don't go near them. Also i never thought i actually looked that much different when i look in a mirror etc without a top, but someone snapped a photo during one of the walking breaks and it shocked me!

I can only assume it's a terrible angle, and my hydration pack is doing something nasty but my top is stretching at the seams! Not sure why it looks square though!

It's all mind games, if you asked me now if I looked basically the same at 205lbs as I did at my heaviest 265lbs I'd say yes. Pictures tell a whole other story though which is why I always try and grab the odd set of progress shots every month or two as it's then very easy to see the changes.

I'm a little annoyed with myself. I have the Mallorca 312 on Saturday and one aim was to be as light as possible for that. I'm currently around 15st 8, whereas I would have liked to be about 15st, maybe 15st 2. I've let events and holidays give me an excuse for not being as good as I could be. Having said that, I've smashed a couple of PB's up short climbs last weekend, so sometimes it's about balancing calories in to fuel training/gain form as much as limiting calories to lose weight.

Sounds like you're in a better place if you don't look at the numbers (except those PB's!). Weather is still being a bit weird over this way, i was out earlier with sunshine and then 5 minutes later it was raining. It's been like this a while now. Hopefully it stays nice for you.

Good luck with the ride @AndyCr15 !

I’ve got some work to do. Need to break back under the 90kg mark but life seems to be getting in the way a bit at the moment. Road bike is very much still gathering dust and my indoor sessions haven’t been as numerous as I’d have liked.

I really need to get back on to logging everything religiously as that’s slipped up, hence the extra kgs. Easter chocolate hasn’t helped /facepalm.

I tried a huel meal in a shake yesterday, - I'm trying to enter a calorie deficit.

Wow this was one of the worst things I've ever put in my mouth. The chocolate one was quite literally disgusting. I am now torn between trying different flavours and never going near the brand again..

I tried the Huel shakes and other companies alternatives years ago when they all first came out, they weren't terrible back then but weren't great either. The main issue was they seemed to give me cracking heartburn so were quickly forgotten about.

One meal a day has been Huel for me for about 6 years. I enjoy them, but I did have to find the flavours I liked, as some I really didn't...

Almost another 4lb since this last post a week and a half ago. Now down 88.2lbs/6.3st/40kg from my heaviest. I'm down 2st 12lbs this year so far, so i reckon i should be able to hit 3st by new year.

While i've always though I cant tell much of a difference from my heaviest I saw my profile pic at work the other day and I think it finally kicked in that i am making visible progress. I had a bit of a "mirror moment" the other day after realising this and can actually tell i've lost some weight around my thighs, lower gut, man tiddies and my face. There's a long road ahead though and i've been thinking of what goals to set myself next year and what to do to be more active.

Just another accountability post since the last one in December. IU've had a bit of a rough year, had a mini meltdown in January which completely knocked me for a six, was fairly i'll in February, March wasnt too bad but like Jan and Feb i was yoyo with ~8lb swings up and down. Finally got back to some resemblance of normal towards the end of March and i've been doing a fair bit more walking than I normally do and i've managed to knock off the yoyo weight and a little extra to the point im now the lightest i've been in years but with a hell of a path to go.

Since Jan 2023 im now down 95lbs/6st 11lbs/43.1kg. I've tipped over a stone milestone i was aiming for and i have a long way still to go but im feeling focused and dedicated to it now, more so than i have in quite a while.
