Thanks - yes, I think a Zotac or PNY is probably next on the agenda. Availability seems fairly good at the moment, so with a bit of luck the saga will end soon…!
But even if that goes boobies up like i said before i got you even though you may have forgotten. What colour is your setup black?

You post up a wanted 5090 coil whine free ad and someone *cough cough* will reply. No rules broken and it is transcribed... just sayin.....

Aha! Thanks for reminding me, appreciated =]

It’s a white set-up, but not necessarily looking for a ‘match’.

Will post in the wanted forum in due course… inevitably, at this rate! (Assuming my run of luck with new cards continues) :o :p

White you say? Heh i have 2.....i accidentally order 2 ice cards. One came today and the other is coming sunday

Got an alert bought it less than 5 mins later got another for even less. Tried to cancel the original but they had already marked it for dispatch and refuse my cancellation. Was hoping the bank anti fraud check will let me escape bloody thing never even came up.

Go into gregs to buy a pasty and ask me to verify the purchase.....

Haha you maniac - you gotta catch ‘em all! Did you set them out on a table next to each other and battle them? :p

Ended up with a Zotac arriving tomorrow - fingers crossed…!

I think this the one for you. I am positive it wll be good.

Well theres an astral arriving tommorrow as well as the other ice on sunday. Tbh since i got my current aorus master (black) i will be suprised if the astral or the two other aorus can beat it coil whine wise. Still doing prolonged testing and i have not heard a peep from it. Not in steel nomad. Not in speedway etc.

This was the one I earmarked for you. I would let you test it in your setup even if it didnt coil whine in my setup I couldnt 100% gurantee it wouldnt in your setup.

But i think you are good with the zotac.

Just got around to installing my 5090 FE yesterday. 0 coil whine. Dead silent to be honest. Ran Helldivers 2, Indiana Jones, and Steel Nomad 3DMark. My drop was from March.

Had a MSI RTX 5080 gaming trio for almost 2 weeks, coil whine neither improved nor was it tolerable and ultimately returned.

Tried undervolting, power limiting, various long stress tests and also tried to see if my system was at fault, installed a Gigabyte RTX 5070 ti gaming oc, Gigabyte RTX 4080 gaming oc and palit RTX 3080 ti (dont own any of them). Zero coil whine.

Never knew about coil whine till I got 5080, definitely got unlucky lol.

Im considering PNY, Zotac, Palit Gamerock RTX 5080, heard these cards have lower risk of coil whine however fan noise for those cards come in question.

Any experience or advice will be appreciated.

It is still very much luck of the draw but you increase your chances of getting one with little to none. It depends on how much you are willing to embark on the gpu merry go round.

I have not heard of the zotac having loud fans the 4 series yes but for the 5 series no. There are people who say itnhas loud fans but that is subjective and even then it can be undervolted to a more tolerable level.

I have a msi gaming trio and i ended up lucku with that one as it has minimal coil whine which is kinda suprising given MSI track record for it. And then there is Asus probably the single most complained about vendor. And i am not talking the 5xxx series or even the 4xxx series i am going way further back than that.

Sure there are asus cards that dont have it but if yiu look at any forum regardless what region. Then asus high end cards closely followed msi high end cards always seem to get a lot of flak. And when you consider the prices they are charging it makes sense to check out the other vendors and at way more affordable prices

Ahh the dreaded merry go round hate it in real life, hopefully its a 2 seater at worse:cry:

Since owning the MSI Gaming trio variant I did find those fans very pleasant at stock curves, I don't expect the same thing from cards I mentioned but they are quite beefy so custom fan curve at very low rpm's should yield great results.

Would be nice to get some samples of noise profiles, I have heard the Palit Gamerock has quite a bit of bearing noise, while the PNY just has some early cases of fan defects but general very quiet and the zotac I heard it has strange high pitch noises.

I generally keep away from Asus due to those reports, but they such great cards bit of a shame.

Yes I have seen a lot of reports for higher end cards having a higher chance of coil whine, main reason why I wont buy.

I have my eye on Gigabye as well, but in my region its abit pricy right now, but they are dropping so im patient.

Thank you for your insight, looking forward to more data on this thread.

Well from my mucking about the ASU’s is the quietest at idle and at load which kinda surprised me as I saw the initial reviews and was hesitant due to the 4th fan. Maybe mine is a different batch like the newer ones and differ from the launch ones. Suprims are similar although i would say the suprim is slightly louder at load.

The gigabyte runs loud and hotter than the other two which doesn’t seem to tie in what the reviews said at launch. However it performance is better than the other two. And it clocks better as well in both aspects overclocking the core and undervolting.

In terms of coil whine from the msi bunch the gaming trio and one of the suprims had very little in the way of coil whine. The other suprim had some which was louder but still quieter than the suprim liquid.

The ASU’s seems to have little to moderate coil whine but I am setting up another test bench to see if the results are the same. The astral lc had fairly significant coil whine and a sketch fan connector so I had to RMA it. Ordered another one haven’t got round to testing it.

The gigabytes. One of them was silent, the other had some but it was very quiet and the third I haven’t tested yet as it arrives later today.

I am sure sooner or later down the road I will get a palit or zotac in to test.

My fav card was the gaming trio. But I enjoy the giga a lot which traditionally speaking I never liked them. But they are loud.

These were all at stock. There is undervolting to go. Suprims I was never happy with the way they undervolted and just gave up and went back to power limiting them to 90%. The gaming trio was more receptive and I was happy with that. And one of the giga I tried and I was happy with that as well.

Just an update, mine does have a bit of coil whine. But the only way I heard it was I was doing a few hours of Steel Nomad loops to test undervolting stability. I had to open the side panel of the case and have my ear next to the card to actually hear it, my fans in the PC are louder than the coil whine.

Slightly OT, but how is the undervolting capability of your FE?

I would say average. So far, I found the sweetspot at 0.895v, I've been using loops of Steel Nomad to benchmark. At 0.895v I got the same score as stock settings but with 55 less watts (it goes up to 100 watts saved in gaming) consumed and around 5-6c cooler (can go up to 10c cooler in gaming). I tried less voltage and gave up too much performance with scores coming in sub 14k. If I was purely chasing the highest score I can get, it was at 0.975v which got me 14,500ish points (it peaked at 3k mhz) vs 14,100ish points on the 0.895v (peaked at 2.8k mhz) but both were holding a consistent 2.5k to 2.6k mhz. I think I am score limited because I am using the O11 Vision Compact case. Beautiful case, but not the best for airflow, results also show this on TechPowerUp.

Good for the FE. I had same result with Ventus. Astral(15,300 ish, latest driver) just under 3,000 at 0.9 Ive found sweet spot as silent. (Ventus crashed at that).
Did you OC the memory as well to 3k? I did, but have read that can actually lower SN scores?

The memory OC won't go beyond 2k on afterburner, I slid it up and down, did not find any significant impact on scoring or stability
