Red, Yellow, Green, Brown, Blue, Pink and Black. It's the General Snooker Thread!

Credit to Mark but it doesn't sit right with me that the all these 50 year olds are still making through to the later stages of major tournaments. Growing up there was always a crop youngesters coming through to replace the existing old guard, that doesn't seem to be the case any longer.

I think its because the standard and quality from that era is exceptional, the modern players while good, not many seem to have that extra X factor to make them phenomenal.

It’s the same as tennis and I think (wild take here btw) that it’s just the way the way the mentality is these days. No ruthlessness winners. That’ll do anything to win.

It’s similar to football as well, Joe Hart was saying the other day that expecting the modern player to stay with the or live close to the training ground/stadium isn’t going to fly these days. Players just aren’t willing to do it.

In tennis’ case, the entire decade of the 90s only 3 winners were born. Only due to pure Father Time and injuries and PEDs that they’ve managed to win.

Hendry's attacking play and dominance in the 90s forced those coming through like "the class of '92" to raise their game.

The younger generation are improving, there's been ~116 147s since 2013 and more centuries breaks are made, but these only win a single frame.

Just like golf and a lot of other sports, many have the ability to win, but the winners are often those that are are far stronger mentally.

I've no idea what will worsen quickest for the class of '92, mental belief or their failing body.

Honestly a joke tbh. They paid to see a semi final, not Davis and Taylor perform their schtick for the hundredth time on top of the constant reminders you get every year during the WC. I imagine most of them would opt to still go anyway so it's not like it's going to burn a huge hole in their pockets. I get that games might sometimes fall in a way that you only see a frame or two but at least in that scenario you technically saw a semi final.

Ticket prices apparently ranged from £121 to £660. Imagine paying over half a grand to listen to Taylor and Davis' pish about that final for the umpteenth time.

Right joke tbh, they should have given ticket holders that exhibition and/or a refund!

Can probably hear Taylor and Davis bang on about black ball finishes and waggling fingers at 100 exhibitions up and down the country for £50.

I can't see Zhao having any chance in this final. Williams is playing on a completely different level to anything that Zhao has faced so far - and it's not even close.
Obviously I could be wrong (often are) but I just don't see it even being a close match.

Eh? OK he was given chances to get scoring by Ronnie but when he got in -

15 of his 17 frames were won with breaks over 50. That is something.

Probably be flagged for match fixing! :D
Oooooof :p

I've seen so many comments online saying 'he's a cheat' and all this nonsense. He was banned for not reporting the wrongdoings of others for god's sake. He served his time for that and clearly put in a lot of practice in his time away from the circuit. Hope he wins, it'll be good for the sport.
