Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian's Wall 'felled overnight'

So what's the sentence going to be.
Max I believe is 10 years and unlimited fine.
I'm going for 7 years out on tag in 3.5 years and £10,000 fine. But I see one is having a mental health report. So for him 6 years and £10,000 fine.

What was their reasoning for chopping it down ?

Jesus this is embarrassing, from start to finish...

All the while companies pretending they're doing people a service get away with chopping down trees that are 'unsafe' and barely anyone cares.
Had a councillor round here not long ago complaining because some trees and hedge rows were getting blocked up with building site waste affecting the wildlife. Meanwhile the council were allowing trees, hedges and habitat to be chopped down to make way for a new college at the same time.

Unlikely to get prison time for this,
Given they have both been remanded in custody I will be very surprised if they don't get prison time, I would have thought the only thing that could prevent it would be a mental health assessment. I'm not expecting anything like ten years but I will be stunned if either of them walk free from court with a suspended sentence etc.

How on earth would you values something like that? A value is just what someone is prepared to pay for something. How would/could they buy a tree?
