Lit Fibre

New ONT is darkish grey and smaller than the old Lit one. Couldn't use the old mounting points so had to drill more holes in the wall. The old ones are hidden so that's fine if you don't remove it.

I have my ONT on a DIN rail bracket foam taped to the ONT and then clipped to a short length of DIN rail, to avoid having to swiss cheese the wall each time the ONT needs swapping.

I spoke to Lit Fibre, no other deals available but the ones that were offered in the e-mail.

So started looking round for any other ISP on the CityFibre network

I OK with IDNet or Zen for £40 910 Mbps or £ 34 500Mbps I have used both in the past and service has been good with them

People seem to rate Aquiss as well but in the same price range as Zen, but seen some spring offers for 12month contract 1GB at £34 per month no router but with static IP included.

Rocket Fibre £28 per month 1GB which is on the CityFibre network, with a Amazon Eero 6 Router. Trustpilot's score 4.1 but only 273 reviews

I was informed by Rocket Fibre my exchange is on XGS-PON Technology so I can get the new City Fibre speeds up to 2GB

Toob is £25 per month 900Mbps for new customers, normally £29 which is on the CityFibre network with a Trustpilot's score are 4.5 6K reviews

Toob, has better support open times 7 days a week, Rocket only 6 days no Sunday.

Both offer Static IP Toob £8 per month, Rocket Fibre IPv4 £4.99, I had no problems with CGNAT with Lit Fibre in the past.

!8 months for both which is better than the two years on Lit Fibre

Toob Free installation, Rocket Fibre £19.98

Leading more towards Toob better support opening hours

You can get 1 month rolling contract for £37 option from Toob

Worth also mentioning what the contract lengths are - beware getting tied into stupidly long contracts with any providers!

This is typical of what winds me up with Lit's correspondence.

Just a quick reminder, you’ve got one more week to return your Lit Fibre kit avoid any charges.

Apart from the fact I didn't get an original email they are missing a 'to'. Nor does it say what kit? The router, the ONT, both? The City Fibre installer offered to take the ONT away, not knowing I was meant to return this might mean I no longer have it!

Shambles. Actually, just spoken to a friend who cancelled his Lit account a couple of months back and Lit didn't ask for anything to be returned.

Edit: Having spoken with Lit I only have to return the router with its PSU

A quick look at the T&Cs shows:

18.2 You acknowledge that when this Agreement comes to an end, We may choose not to request the return of the Equipment or to remove the Equipment from the Property, particularly if it is possible that You may wish to reconnect to the Network at a later date. In such instances, the Fibre and Equipment may remain on the Property after the date on which this Agreement comes to an end and You may not use or authorise anyone else to use the Equipment for any purpose. The restrictions in clause 13 will continue to apply. Instead of the return or removal of the Equipment, and particularly where We consider that You are not complying with this clause 18.2or the restrictions in clause 13, We may also choose to charge You for the value of the Equipment, including the non-returned Lit Hub/Lit Wifi fee specified in Our Guide to Residential Charges and Fees.

Then, referring to their Guide to Residential Charges and Fees, Non-returned Lit Hub Pro Fee £120 for a router than has not been returned to us, when requested; Non-returned Lit Hub Fee £80 for a router than has not been returned
to us, when requested; Non-returned Lit WiFi device Fee £80 for a device that has not been returned to us, when requested

Therefore, it's only the Lit Hub, which matches with your edit :)

You have no use for the old Lit ONT though, just throw it in with the router so you don't have to worry about getting rid of it yourself.

Can someone explain to me why the Lit ONT wouldn't work for another City Fibre install? It's not as if they change the ONT when you swap from one OR provider to another... Seems a waste of time chnaging ONTs, in addition to the issues raised earlier with regards to different screw holes etc

Lit built their own network and when you took service with them they installed an ONT branded as Lit. CityFibre bought the network but they run Calix and Nokia ONTs. If you move from Lit to another CityFibre ISP then your ONT gets swapped, if you migrate to any other CityFibre ISP (including back to Lit) then that happens by keeping the same Calix or Nokia ONT.

I think they just have a standard for the ONTs they use, CityFibre tell their ISP partners what devices to expect so they write their support documentation accordingly, it would be pretty poor from them to leave a Lit-branded ONT in place for an IDNet customer and then if they needed phone support the person on the other end of the phone is asking them to look for a black Calix box or a white Nokia one.

Posted the ONT and Router back today and had had a confirmation email before I got home saying it was on its way back to Lit. Shame the original email didn't mention Lit so one might have known what it was about.

Is this just people in a hurry these says setting up inconsistent processes or deliberately designed to annoy?

Small ISPs will have very manual processes, they might only have 10 users a day leaving so they don't have a fully automated platform automatically generating returns labels and booking collections with courier services.

I have started the process of moving to toob today with the one call switch process. I had a e-mail from Lit Fibre confirming the switch to toob and asking for the equipment to be sent back when my contract ends.

toob will be sending out a new router, but customer support needs to speak with CityFibre about a engineer fitting a new ONT box onto the line or getting one sent.

Due to leave this property anytime soon but my lit fibre contract ends on the 25th of this month, the rolling contract price is £64.99 or I can lock in for £42 a month for 2 years.

It’s annoying because I could be in this house for another month or 3.

You can get 1 month rolling contract for £37 from toob at 900Mbps

Just be informed by toob after speaking with CityFibre this morning that I would need to ask Lit Fibre support to replace the Lit-branded ONT box with a new CityFibre ONT box on my line first so I can start the switching process.

The other option that was suggested by CityFibre was to terminate the line with Lit Fibre and toob will arrange a engineer to fit a new ONT box onto the line.

toob was informed that the new CityFibre ONT box needs to be installed by a engineer and not a user

Rocket Fibre also suggested that I have a new installed line as well and cancel the line with Lit Fibre, but would use the same line into the house.

Did other people have the same problem when moving from Lit Fibre due to the Lit-branded ONT box.

I went with iDNet and they said I'd need a new ONT as part of the online ordering process and charged me £25 to have it installed. Little annoyed about that but sounds simpler than what's being suggested to you.
