*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Seems some more info is coming out about the Pro Controller 2 and it sounds like its excellent. The previous gen was excellent and this one sounds like a good upgrade on that. Some are saying its the best controller they have ever used. At £70 it had better be bloody good. I would have to try one before dropping that sort of money. The main thing that will annoy me is the old one not turning on the console.

That makes me feel better about having the Pro 2 on pre-order. I just can't deal with the Joy-Cons so it was a bit of a no-brainer for me.

I bought one as I will rarely if ever play it undocked, so figured it was worth the investment. At least until I sell the whole thing once I’ve caught up on the Zelda, Mario and Metroid games I’ve missed due to not having picked up a Switch 1 before.

Preordered the Mario Kart bundle this morning. £385 here in NZ for the bundle. Probably not the end of the world and stock market has been strong recently. Why not.
Best deal yet, well done. The rest of the world, especially US get shafted. And we get the usual slap in the face here in Blighty. I'm still annoyed that Japan is the only place that gets a cheaper region-locked model, not like it even gets manufactured over there, still gets made in places like China, Vietnam, Taiwan, etc. Gone are the days of importing cool region-exclusive limited edition consoles.

A quick question on the VRR when docked issue. Are or will most games on the switch 2 be capped at 60fps so if you are playing at 4K/60 this is not really an issue as long as frames are solid?

I've preordered a switch 2 bundle deal for my boy's 6th birthday in June. I'm a bit out of the loop and not sure what items are absolutely necessary and what aren't. Is a micro SD card needed? Is a controller charging dock needed? Anything else that is a must have purchase?

It uses microSD Express cards and not regular microSD cards. You could pick one up as a pre-order or just use the internal storage until that runs and get a card then. Everything else is pretty much optional. The Joy-Cons connect to the Switch and get charged that way. The Pro 2 controller does sound good. I have one on pre-order myself but you don't need it as the Joy-Cons will work fine.

Let’s be realistic, the switch 2 isn’t rendering at native 4K in any game. It will be upscaled 900p via DLSS at best for the most part.

If the joy cons are like the switch one, get a pro pad if your planning on playing for any length of time.

Anyone any thoughts on is it worth it to go from Pro Controller to the V2? Unsure if its worth it

I am doing it mostly because I have parted ways with my Switch to my niece including the controller. I mean I still have it at the moment but I made them a promise they can have it.

I don't think it is essential though, the OG pro controller will works perfectly fine.

Only seriously good reason to do it is the extra buttons on the back of the controller and the ability to wake up the Switch. The rest of the upgrades are QoL upgrades rather than huge updates.

Quicker to charge but same battery life.
Apparently feels super nice and is generally an excellent controller
Extra buttons
Chat button
Headphone port
Can wake Switch.

Its thats worth the price over a gen one controller then i'm sure you will be happy with it. If you have a gen one pro controller then I'm not sure. Only big omission for me is the ability to turn the console on via the controller.

So from that list the only thing that would be helpful is extra buttons, shall hold off for now then unless games start making it essential to have them. Thanks all!

It's worth upgrading the controllers if you want to wake the Switch 2 when docked.

From Nintendos compatibility page.

You cannot exit sleep mode on Nintendo Switch 2 using the HOME Button on Nintendo Switch controllers such as Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

Near the bottom of the site.
