*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Just noticed our Sky bill has sneaked up. Our Signature package (our only one) has gone up by over 10% (£4), and our Ultrafast Broadband has likewise gone up by nearly 10% (£3), meaning £7 more a month now. If I hadn't looked by sheer chance wouldn't have known...

Note: We're still in a countract which is taking £9 off that Signature package and £12 off the broadband.

No justification for 10% rises. Just greed.

Openreach increase their own prices every year on 01/04 and you don't thi k staff are entitled to raises either? I get it, it's expensive, but to say it's 'just greed' is incorrect.

Will any Sky Sports subscribers be calling Sky at the start of next season asking for their bill to be put up as Sky Sports show more Premier League football? Or asking for Prem Plus to be reinstated with Saturday evening games only available for an additional cost? No? Then you're hypocritical for accepting more for less.

Where did I say staff aren't entitled to raises? Are salaries going up by 10%?

10% is greed it's well above inflation.

It's the same as something else that's ridiculously overpriced, what's your point?
That some people have a skewed idea of value. Some people will spend £7 a day, sometimes more on a coffee 5 times a week but complain about a £7 a month price rise on something they watch and use for hours a day, nearly every day.

Who made you the arbiter of what is and isn't skewed value?

Bear in mind Sky are slowly phasing out dishes in favour of stream pucks, which ultimately means they can ditch their satellites and their installation staff. Their overheads will shrink drastically, so price bumps like this become even more unsavoury.

They've already laid off around 40% of their Engineers/Installers compared to even 2020 as the equipment has become more reliable and more people move towards Streaming through Glass and Stream. It's very difficult to find Sky Q through the website these days, it's all Stream with Glass as the fallback. You can see why though. Next day delivery for a Stream box that the customer can setup themselves, no waiting even two weeks in some situations for an install, plenty of time to be talked out of it or have your mind changed by something else. I'm also under threat of redundancy at the moment BTW as part of their latest cuts.

It's the Comcast way sadly. Reduce costs swiftly and viciously and push profits and income and staff be damned.

And with all that in mind, you just defended a 10% price hike.

:D

(btw i'm sorry to hear about your potential redundancy, it's a horrible situation to be in, when suddenly everything you have is threatened)

I have been Paying £44 a month for sky sports entertainment and sky sports
but it was becoming too much money to spend, so today after 10 years with Sky I have cancelled my account.

If we're dragging up 13 year old posts may as well highlight the rest of it lol. Oh we used to dreeeeeeam of paying 44 quid for sky sports and entertainment..... and when we got home, our dad would force us to watch the endless repeats of The Simpsons season 31, if we were lucky!
