*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Tea was not a sensible choice. Just eaten a £35 bbq platter at Hickory’s.

Can barely move!
Meat makes you strong! Had a fantastic meat meal last night. Choose what you want from the butcher shop counter and get it grilled. Absolutely glorious! The sensible decision was to call it a night after the meal - there were a few that went for beers until the wee hours. Sleep was chosen over empty calories. Had plenty of wine though!

@dirtychinchilla @Josh @tom_e - I really miss the first gym I joined in Brum. Initially quite an intimidating dungeon with monstrous people lifting in there, but if you actually wanted to go lift some weights, talk about technique and actually get help everyone was super friendly. I like my current gym, but I only go for the convenient location.

Just another accountability post since the last one in December. IU've had a bit of a rough year, had a mini meltdown in January which completely knocked me for a six, was fairly i'll in February, March wasnt too bad but like Jan and Feb i was yoyo with ~8lb swings up and down. Finally got back to some resemblance of normal towards the end of March and i've been doing a fair bit more walking than I normally do and i've managed to knock off the yoyo weight and a little extra to the point im now the lightest i've been in years but with a hell of a path to go.

Since Jan 2023 im now down 95lbs/6st 11lbs/43.1kg. I've tipped over a stone milestone i was aiming for and i have a long way still to go but im feeling focused and dedicated to it now, more so than i have in quite a while.

Yoyo'd a bit over the last 3 weeks but im now exactly 100lbs (7st 2lb/45.35kg) down now. Feeling more motivated as I go on and started going for walks more now the weathers a bit better. Getting close to my target weight where i said i would feel more comfortable wobbling down the gym and obviously when im gym wobbling the weight will come off quicker and more consistantly.

Returned from the UK after being relatively good the remainder of the time. Luckily the hotel was on the canal so was pleasant walking along it to the office in the morning, but also in the evenings and i tried to get a run in before the walk to work too. Flies made going in the evening a bit unpleasant!

Since i've been back in Spain i've been quite good, although i bought a 400g ribeye at the weekend and didn't realise quite how high in calories that would be! Also bought the first bottle of red wine for months as i've been trying to cut down on that. Treated myself to something a bit special which was especially nice. My main goal is not just drinking the cheap stuff every week and maybe limiting myself to a bottle a month of something i really enjoy rather than just having it because it's here.

Got back in my home gym last night too. I've toyed with quite a few apps now which create workout plans, but there are so many being created these days it's impossible to know what's good. Ultimately i want something that's a little varied rather than just stronglifts. The current one is BWS by Jeremy Ethier (quite like his Youtube channel) but it's a bit limited as whilst it tries to focus on nutrition too it won't import other activities so me being out for a 2hr hike isn't recorded and just gives feedback that i've overeaten! Last nights workout was quite nice though and i'm just aiming for 2-3x 30 minutes a week.

Weather is starting to heat up so a big factor is going to be in me trying to get out early.

Weight wise. My scales are showing low battery even though i just recharged them so unsure if the batteries are faulty. However whilst it didn't sync to my phone they showed 102.5kg which if true i'm relatively happy with.

Annoyingly I didn't weigh myself before my recent (one of many) weight loss attempts. I tend to lose weight and then put it back on again, so I need to see some longer term balance rather than it being a reactionary thing.

I bought a Peloton at the end of March and I've been doing 3 x 45 min music rides (they're basically interval sessions), mainly because running always results in picking up an injury within three months. No matter how much I build up my distance and stretch etc. I do miss running though so maybe I'll start to incorporate it back in.

I was 85kg when I weighed myself a couple of weeks ago, but I've definitely lost weight and I can only conclude I was the heaviest I've ever been before I started on the bike.

Good work. I've never been great at losing weight, i've generally always held a fairly consistent weight. Especially when i was running ~10hrs a week i'd somehow still hold around 95kg even when everyone was expecting me to be shedding it. Since i stopped running it's slowly crept up (combined with moving to Spain and drinking/eating more)

I'm now stuck around 102-105 and in the past when i've really focused i've still really struggled to get under the 100kg mark. Although i generally rely too heavily on exercise to reduce weight rather than diet. The last month or so has been a lot better after i got some ropey looking blood results so will see if i finally nail the diet side.

I like posting here (and I don't want to bore my IRL friends) but a nice non scale victory for me today - had to buy a new dress shirt, down to a 16 collar but an extra slim fit at charles tywhitt with still plenty of room to spare - nice fit through the chest and shoulders which is what we are aiming for!

Yeah, I still remember the feeling the first time I was buying some Polo Shirts and needed to buy the Slim Fit

I also keep one windbreaker that used to be skin tight to the point I couldn't really wear it. Now you could fit two of me in there. It's a great reminder of where I came from.

I had to buy some new CT shirts for work the other week, previous ones were 17.5 inch extra slim fit.

Neck is currently just under 16.5 so ordered the 16.5 extra slim fit...no chance

I'd have gone Hulk and burst out the chest if I tried to wear them. Settled on the 17 inch which is perfect on the chest but still too much fabric around the waist :o

In other news I can see 19xlbs flickering on the scales when it's making it's mind up in the mornings, settling in the 201s at the moment but I think I'll be through that barrier by the end of the week. That will be an absolutely huge milestone for me.

I've been on a bit of a weight loss journey since having some health issues crop up. I'm 43 5ft 6" and decided it was time I sorted myself out, for a healthier later life. I weighed 86kg in March and now currently 73.5kg. My target is 70kg. A combination of Gym, quitting alcohol and evening snacking made a massive impact on my weight flying off (to be expected I guess). I also sorted out my sleep which has obvious benefits. I'm in bed for 10:30pm on a weekday, where before it would be after 12:00am!

I thought stopping drinking would be the hardest thing. I'd been flirting with the idea of stopping alcohol after a crazy work event over 3 days in Novemeber where lots of booze was consumed. I was wrecked for a few days afterwards and said I can't do it no more, but that never happened due to Christmas! I would mainly drink at home on a Friday - Sat, but since Feburary I've not touched a drop, and i've not really been bothered by it.

Most of my weight was around my midsection. Its nice to look in the mirror and not be disgusted with how i look. I was a 34" waist (and that was a tight fit!) and now comfortably into a 32".

I guess the real journey begins in maintaining a healthy weight going forward!

Awesome stuff. Alcohol is probably my biggest weakness. I toy with non alcoholic beers when i consciously remember. This helps as whilst enjoyable i don't enjoy the taste as much as regular beers so beyond the initial refreshment i don't have the desire to have one after another. Making the switch to NA when out is helping too as we eat out a lot more since moving here which was the cause of the sudden weight gain for me.

There’s been a huge increase in the number of NA beers available. I’ve been enjoying them more and more (although nothing beats a real beer of course!). Lucky Saint is my go to, but the Birmingham Brewing Company and Attic Brewery both now provide an excellent non alcoholic beer. UK pubs increasingly providing for this market too which makes driving out to the countryside for a pub lunch much more appealing as can have more than one drink.

I’m trying to refocus after a couple of away weekends for birthdays. Got to start counting calories properly again as it has slipped, hence weight creeping a bit

It’s been nice to get out on my road bike the last week too. My fitness is decent at the moment, but hills would be easier with a couple of kgs less to carry!

It's a shame the craft beer market hasn't caught on as well over here as NA beers are restricted to NA equivalents of the main lagers. A couple aren't too far off the 5% counterparts though and when it's hot and sunny and you get a frosty bottle of NA beer it's (almost) as refreshing as the real thing.

My issue with them in the UK was that they were never enjoyable enough on their own, so sitting home on a Friday night with a couple NA beers never suited and i'd either just buy the alcoholic equivalent or just drink nothing. I don't really like coke and whilst i enjoy Fanta, i drink it too quickly so it's a bit rubbish when you're out and ordering drinks every 5 seconds. Water is always good but sometimes you want a flavour.

Guinness 0 is great, just a touch more watery than the real stuff but tastes spot on - it's very much my go too. For lager, Heineken 0 is pretty good ice cold - in terms of IPA, Beavertown do one called Lazer Crush which is good, and Clwd Tropicana from Tiny Rebel is also decent.

I don't drink a lot, only at events, nights away etc... not because of weight loss - just can't be bothered with it when we have the kids, 4 and 2 are not good ages to be waking up a bit fuzzy too!

Back to eating and moving normally post illness, 16KM long run yesterday in the glorious sunshine - took on 2 gels (80g carbs total) and didn't have any accidents so that's comforting! Weighed in at 89.74KG this morning so last 4 days have been sub 90 post illness so im hopeful of setting a new baseline.
Will be smashing back the carbs on Friday and Saturday in support of a big HM PB attempt on sunday - sub 1:40 is in my sights and I won't let underfueling stop me!

running about 10 miles when you weigh 90KG is seriously hard on knees by the way

I went from about 90KG to 65KG by only using an indoor exercise bike for 30 minutes a day and eating less, you dont have to kill yourself

Exactly the same reason I shy away from it these days unless I'm away from home for the weekend, my 2 year old can kill me off without the help of me being hungover :D

The only N/A beers i've tried so far are Peroni, Corona and Birra Moretti. I didn't mind the Moretti too much. I supposed i've got something new to look into now with NA beers.

I'm actually partial to a glass of Ginger ale. Tesco do a nice low calorie one and its only 75p a bottle. Its really nice with some crushed ice.
