An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Keep forgetting that applying weakness to something doesn't usually mean it has effect with damage in the same frame :( need to rejig some of my spells/enhancements :s was wondering why some enemy seemed momentarily almost immune then dying very quickly to damage a few moments later.

Does the Steam version have the same performance issues as the game pass version?
afaik it was a game pass issue.

with 12700k + 4090 I never had any issues or noticed any stuttering or anything when playing via steam

probably something to do with the drm windows store titles use

I think I forgot this mechanic, could you explain it?

If you have a spell that does say 50 shock for 1 second and applies weakness to shock for 1 second, the weakness to shock is applied last in that game frame so isn't applied to your damage, in most cases your next attack won't land until after that 1 second is up - so to apply it you really need to apply weakness to shock for at least 3 seconds and it will be taken into account for subsequent attacks with shock damage - or use a spell with debuffs first then follow up with the relevant damage with a second spell or weapon.

Which means sometimes you see enemies that don't seem to take damage initially, take moderate damage on your next attack and can suddenly die very rapidly after the 3rd attack or so if your debuffs are stacking.

Quite a few crash fixes but shame they don't seem to have improved the lighting.

This first update focuses on quests, major bugs and blockers, and quality of life fixes. The second update will focus on performance. Bethesda said it will share more details “when we are able.”

Hopefully its sorted in the later patch

Been messing about with it today on a few different setups including 9th gen Intel onwards and various AMD 7000 series CPUs - interestingly on my 14700K it is a much better experience for some reason than anything else I've got access to - even when it isn't necessarily the highest frame rate it still feels much better with less stutter and chugging moments. Have to be honest I've been a little touch sceptical of some of the performance complaints as on my 14700K with 4080 Super it really does play pretty well.

Sadly the Lenovo Legion Go doesn't have enough RAM to really run it properly - with a lot of tweaking I got it mostly working but it is a struggle - actually does OKish with mostly low settings and doesn't look terrible, mostly, but sometimes you unavoidably max out the available RAM/VRAM allocation and it just crashes or takes forever to recover. Definitely will be buying a 32GB device when they are available as otherwise it would handle it OK.

Interestingly it definitely is hitting CPU bottlenecks at times (after experimenting a bit with mix and matching hardware) way before the GPU is maxed out, even when the utilisation graphs aren't necessarily indicating a CPU bottleneck.

EDIT: Oh and Steam's local transfer has been a lifesaver - even over copying file around on the LAN it mostly made things much easier.

So the first patch for Remastered has arrived, and it has broken mods. The mod I'm using is doing something that used to work: changing the values attached to an object. In this case it increased shopkeepers money. Now it doesn't. But at least everything no longer gets suffixed by [NL]...

New annoyance: the house you can buy on Chorrol is now three cells, not one. Now you get a loading screen going into a bedroom. And there's at least one new quest if you bought the deluxe version (yes, I know...). The reward is either bugged or silly: the quest giver offers you a piece of armour and asks you to choose which piece. Or you can just say "All of them!!" and he gives you one of each piece. Ditto for the weapon. And the quest is easy as well and takes about fifteen minutes.

Tried this over the weekend and performance is not as bad I thought it would be based in comments. Seems CPU heavy in places and you can definitely feel the UE5 stutter. But after a while I just forgot about it and was enjoying the game. :)

Hardware Lumen seems to cause lots of CPU usage spikes and it just turns into a stuttery mess, using the software option set to quality is much more stable for me.

Did this still have the Alchemy potion exploit? I seem to remember in the original completing the gates while invincible having taken a super strength health potion.

No idea what that exploit is but it's pretty much the same engine with a pretty skin on top so be surprised if it wasn't still in.

99% of the old exploits still work in the remaster - it basically runs the original engine in a container and then renders pretty graphics over it (to over simplify) hence why it is quite CPU heavy. They are fixing some bugs with updates, though seem to be staying away from non-gaming breaking bugs which players positively exploit, and by nature the odd exploit doesn't work or doesn't work quite the same as the original.

Ran this on a 9950X3D and aside from the initial 5 seconds after a loading transition while the graphics load up, I experienced no stutter at all, all the way through to completion.

Does UE5 use more than 8 cores?
