What film did you watch last night?

The Ballad of Wallis Island - 8/10

Went into this completely blind after @ninjabib praised it earlier. Just a really enjoyable film to watch, Carey Mulligan is fantastic in everything and the rest of the cast is great too.

Raiders of the lot Ark and then Last Crusade. Still 2 movies that are a fun and worth a watch anytime they're on.

Was looking at wiki after watching Crusade and never realised that Crusade was a sequel to Raiders, and temple of doom was a prequel to Raiders. Always assumed the actual story lineage was raiders\temple\crusade as they came out, apparently not.

Jaws - absolute masterpiece. Some of the effects shows the age but the way it was shot and set out was superb. Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfus and Robert Shaw played their parts extremely well. The iconic John William's Shark theme really helped build up the tension and execution. Overall probably one of the best if not the best Shark movie out there. 8.5/10

Jaws 2 - wasn't as good as the first but still a good movie imo. The effects were not quite as good and the story was almost a carbon copy as the first. 6.5/10

Jaws 3 - This was no where near the level of original. It had a interesting setting with SeaWorld and could see what they were trying to do. Some of effects were awful tbh. Often clumsy and looked really poor. Sharks do not swim backwards nor can they park themselves in and out of pipes. One thing I thought would have been much better ending.

They were in SeaWorld. Why not unleash Shamu on Jaws. The Orca would have made short work on the Great White.

Dangerous Animals - the build up was for this new movie. An insane Jai Courtney demonstrates life lessons to an extreme using the brutality of nature. Hassie Harrison plays an rebellious surfer trying to run away from her past and surf her way to a life of freedom and independence. Some good performances with some really brutal scenes that leave you squirming at times. It was a fair attempt with the budget they had. However some of the CGI effects could have been cleaner. Personally thought it was enjoyable enough and well worth once over at the very least. 6.5/10.

I loved jaws and even number 2.

jaws 3 was pretty poor however I will always remember it as it was one of the 2 very 1st films we hired on video the day my parents hired our 1st ever VCR from rumbelows. (gremlins and jaws 3 complete.woth 3D glasses!)

watched The Accountant 2.
Not as good as the first movie and felt there was a lot less action in this one but the story was good and it was definitely worth a watch.

Alien Vs Predator: Requiem (2007)

Im trying to go through some of the franchise I've never seen before, so Covenant and now this.

Turns out I haven't really missed anything, this is also down there in the reasonably awful category. I don't really understand where this movie was going, it was almost like an american teen flick at one point, but there is so much going on in this movie without anything really aligning.

One point where the army lady sees her husband get torned to peices by an Alien, and seemingly about 2 hours later in the time line shes like "Yeah I'll live" , almost like, yeah Ive seen plenty of husbands mauled to death by alien creatures don't you know, lol.

The other thing that really annoyed me, was a lot of the action was so dark, I was watching this last night, in a dark room, and I still basically couldn't see. Seems daft to spend all that money and then make it so dark you can barely see it anyway.

Im gonna give it one extra point over Covenant because the blondy was fit, and at the end they nuke everything, which is what they should have done with the final version of this before they released it.

I could be wrong as it was a long time ago (wow almost 20 years ... I feel old!) but wasn't a lot of the action sequences deliberately either removed or made less clear in that film due to them wanting to hit an age rating and them finding out they were gonna miss it ? again... if I am confusing it with another film I apologise

No idea, you could very well be correct.

Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995)

Apparently dismissed at the time as a Pulp Fiction wannabe. Having watched it, it doesn't even deserve association as a wannabe. The cast is great, but mostly wasted, and there a few enjoyable scenes here and there. But non of it is enough to sustain any interest and it generally plods on without much of anything memorable or enjoyable.

Watched ASH on prime, a science fiction thriller about a woman who wakes up to find the rest of the crew on her space base have been murdered and she has lost her memory and has to find out what happened.
Decent cast but the film is a hodge podge of ideas from better films and is mediocre at best.

Fist Fight - 8/10

Ice Cube and Charlie Day in an enjoyable romp that suits my sense of humour. Makes me think of Role Models in that I probably enjoy it much more than I should and could definitely watch again in the future.

You Were Never Really Here (2017)

Joaquin Phoenix playing another emotionally disturbed character, which he does very well, but probably too often. While the film itself does tell it's story, it's more of a montage of emotional, or violent scenes than a straightforward three act film. There are many scenes with very little to no dialogue and as they are mostly emotionally draining or violent the film feels overly long, despite it's 90 minute runtime.

Probably worth watching once, but you'd never watch it again.

The Accountant 2, 6/10.

Loved the first one, so was excited for 2. However, the plot was ridiculous and a bit of a reach! Some fun moments, some laughs, but overall, wtf?!

Not enough accounting too :)

The Accountant 1 - 8/10
Haven't seen it since it came out and still holds up great. It really could have been a Simple Jack disaster now I look at it but there's so many beats it does well. Affleck's the bomb, yo.

Sinners

I really liked it but I had one massive issue with the sound. It sounded like all the men were mumbling. I tried boosting my center channel but that didn't help. Then I thought maybe my sub was up too loud for their deep voices (I usually never touch it after setup) but turning that down didn't do anything. It was just weird. Especially the young guy, Slim. No idea what he was saying in this film.

Music was banging though
