Just finished transferring my account across, I'm quite surprised how good the screen is, it's not OLED quality in terms of inky blacks but the higher sharpness and resolution are immediately noticeable, viewing angles aren't too bad either, darker games like Hollow Knight and Ori will definitely take a hit but better than expected, extra size is nice too, it makes using the unit on it's stand as a 'mini tv' a lot more useable, the magnetic controllers are a nice touch, kind of feels how Nintendo would've liked it to of been originally, other than that system feels nice snappy and responsive.

Just downloading MK now, looking forward to giving that a bash.

I saw somewhere Nintendo may have wanted to go with magnetic joy cons originally but couldn't make it work properly so they changed it to the rails.

Surprising how well they work, I don't feel worried about one suddenly coming lose, and even pulling on them, it takes quite a bit of force to rip it off, they feel much better than the old rail system with less wobbling.

My only minor fear is I was under the impression magnet strength faded over time or these electro-magnetic?
 
For those who’ve had a good go on it now, does it feel like an upgrade in every area over the previous OLED model?

I’m still umming and ahhing over picking one up.

Not the screen but everything else is a big enough upgrade to compensate for the screen downgrade imo.

I had the OLED one, and despite the screen being LCD, it's definitely an upgrade overall. Not sure what screen they are using, but it looks like IPS. Colours are bright and vibrant, and blacks aren't too bad. Being larger with a 1080p VRR screen is worth the OLED trade-off.

Joy-Cons being larger makes them nicer to use over the originals; even the kickstand is pretty solid, definitely an improvement even over the OLED one. Overall, it just feels and looks like a more premium device and not a kids’ toy this time. Performance is significantly better, and even in older games that struggled to run properly, they do run much better even without Switch 2 updates as they can now maintain that locked framerate.

Here is a good example of Batman on the Switch 1 vs 2. Shocking that game wasn't pulled from the Switch; Switch 2 brute forces its way through it.

I'd have preferred they use a 720p/1080p OLED rather than an LCD. Battery life has also taken a big hit.

I'd say if you play handheld only then you might want to weigh up the benefits. If the battery isn't an issue and you value resolution and FPS over OLED inkey blacks then go for it.

Realistically if your not champing at the bit to play MK then you could wait.

Having said that, it's a nice system and like a user above said it feels very much like 'Switch Pro'.

I really hope they come down in price because that amount is ridiculous. I'd be willing to buy if one drops to £50. At least you can still use them in a normal Micro SD reader, it'll just be slower. The Nintendo branded 256GB one topped out at 100MB/s read and write when I benchmarked it.

Just had a blast on a few games, love it!, the whole system feels a lot more refined, it's a bit of a heavy beast in handheld mode though! One thing they seemed to of fixed is the surround sound working properly now, that was a bit iffy with the original Switch, Mario Odyssey looks very nice in 4k HDR, overall I'm happy, glad I waited to play through TotK, also MK World has some great music, I sometimes forget how good Nintendo are with the quality of their composing.

I've got about 12 different devices set up at the moment and only 4 HDMI ports on the TV lol.

That HDMI switch might be good yeah. I definitely need something more updated than the one I'm using right now, which is donkeys years old. I'll take a proper look at it, cheers!
