What watch do you wear?

I’d go for the gmt. It’s a good complication to have, I use the gmt on one of my watches all the time when travelling.

I’ve been eyeing the Farer Lomond II the last few days.

Anyone have experience with Farer?

They seem to get decent reviews. I know it's totally subjective but I'm not a fan of pointer dates- they take up a lot of visual space for a complication that you don't refer to that often, and can otherwise be elegantly hidden in a date window. GMT on the other hand, I'm all for!

The Farer has a toolless microadjust which is great. If I had to choose one watch, it'd be a must-have.

The Farer GMT is also nice, just not as nice imo as the Lomond. 36mm is on the smaller side.

The other watch I'm interested in is Oris Big Crown ProPilot, seems they can be had for around £1,300 new.

Always liked these, nice watch

Can anyone help me identify the model of this Omega Constellation? It was my dad's and isn't running. It's an automatic, but stops after about 30-60 seconds.

Wondering whether it's fixable, but have no idea of watch value or repair costs...

Here's a similar one https://www.chrono24.co.uk/omega/constellation--id36695774.htm?searchHash=5eb3611e_iSsXbg&pos=65 I think the best thing to do is take it to a local jewellers and get them to open it up for you. They'll be able to tell you what type of movement is in the watch which may be able to date it better. My rough estimate is between 1950s - 1970s although looking at Chrono24 a number of the 50s watches had the 'Pie Pan' dial so probably a later model.

Depending on whats wrong with the watch, again possible issues could be a broken mainspring or something not quite seated probably or even, just in need of a good service as old crusty oil might be working against the movement. A local jeweller could provide this for a few hundred pounds but they may have to send it off to Omega if a parts not readily available but due to the age of the watch some companies don't even repair them which is ludicrous. Omega service pricing here https://www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/customer-service/interventions-and-prices/complete-service

I'm starting to get the itch for another new watch. I'm tempted by the Mido TV Big Date.

So I tried the Oris Big Crown pro pilot on and didn't like how it looked.

I'm currently looking at Seiko or Hamilton for a field watch. Seiko being very reasonable (£280) and Hamilton I'm struggling a bit to find the exact model I like the look of. I was almost set on the Khaki officers watch but the lugs are so big it looks goofy on non-nato straps.

I'm looking at the Khaki Field Auto, but I'm unsure about the polished bezel.

The other I'm looking at is a Seiko 5 sports field variant e.g.

or

Which ever way I go I'll probably switch up the straps almost immediately.

If I go with the Seiko it means I can get some other gifts for my 40th because it's so reasonable :D

For a daily wear or one-watch collection I'd strongly suggest a Sapphire crystal (or acrylic, which you can polish yourself when you scratch it). Seikos around that price bracket are usually mineral.

Yea they are Hardlex. I’ve had Apple Watches before and those are standard glass, never has an issue with scratching. I’ve read you can mod the Seiko with sapphire.

My work Mudmaster has had about as much abuse as I can throw at it (pusher fell off, second hand fell off, and it's a bit bent), which a bit disappointing as my other work watch, a G-Shock GW-A1100FC has had more abuse for longer and is just fine..

So anyway I bought this to replace it, which may have been bit of a mistake (drunk shopping), guess I'll find out soon enough..

Yes, I know I need to set the time/date.

I've ordered the new Blancpain/Swatch Fifty Fathoms...

Was umm-ing & ahhh-ing before release at £350 MSRP, then the prices started shooting up (£420-500).
My brother (a jeweller/watchmaker up north) just managed to get one in at trade cost, so I've snapped his hand off.
