What watch do you wear?

I finally bought a watch for my 40th. Really like the dark green with the tan.

Here she is. Can’t wear it until my birthday next month. Such a nice subtle green and love the matte face.

Really like the look of that Longines. I got a new watch for my 40th too. Already been sent back to Omega though as the screw down crown was stiff which is annoying to say the least!

Got a call yesterday from my local Rolex AD, the note of interest I placed in 2019! has resulted in a watch being allocated to me. I had totally given up, years ago in fact. It still hasn't sunk in tbh.

So there you go, if you managed to get your name on a list (before any cutoff), you're still in with a chance. It's been a looong wait and despite the world having been to hell and back in the meantime (Covid), my opportunity has come. Never thought it would. Hopefully this post will give anyone still waiting, a wee bit of hope.

Rolex are a joke. It's like their doing you a favour selling you an overpriced watch. I hope you told them to **** ***.

I really hate Rolex and their attitude. Hope you told them to do one.

Which one did they call you about?

I am enjoying the fun little tudors that are being pumped out, really liking the BB58 burgundy it has become my daily driver, and I got the lagoon over the weekend. Not sure if its too flashy yet :(

Ok, I get it - Rolex's are not for everyone and can suffer from poor image. I don't agree with the way supply of watches is handled/controlled and mysterious. I do however feel much of the frustration should be directed to some of the ADs and the way they treat their customers; forcing you to give them constant business in the hope of an opportunity to buy a watch at rrp. I totally get the point about being made to feel like it's you doing them a favour, however not all ADs are like this btw. It's a very similar situation with Porsche and their GT cars, though it doesn't seem to stop people queuing to buy them.

This is an aspirational purchase for me, but I get that not everyone will see that or see the value. Each to their own. I'm just a normal punter, no special connections or sway. I had a nice Sub previously, but Covid and it's fallout forced me to move it on. I didn't think I'd get a second bite of the cherry.

It's a GMT-2 (BLNR). Looking forward to it. I quote like the Tudor range in general, but many of their watches make my girly wrists look, well even more girly.

I get it. I'd love a Submariner, but all my favourite watches in my collection were watches I could seek, pay a sensible price for, and walk away with. I couldn't be bothered with the fawning and faffing.

But let's be clear, the problem isn't Rolex, it's entirely the customers. If we didn't froth over them and put up with the shenanigans, it wouldn't be this way.

The grey market prices are reasonable enough now to ensure you don't get screwed over on waiting to stroke the egos of the ADs. I only have one watch I want from Rolex and that's the Oysterflex Daytona with a sunburst dial. It can wait for a while since I should really enjoy the watches I currently own :p This hobby is such a strange one, you can go knees deep and not find enjoyment in anything you own. I finally fell in love with the burgundy Tudor, one of those dials which demands you look at it every so often. Its one of the cheaper watches in my rotation but the one I enjoy most.

Just enjoy it! Rolex aren't my thing but if that's you want you fancy enjoy.

My BB58 bronze is my most warn watch since buying. Not my best or most complicated or intetresting but I love it.

Visited Vacheron boutique on Thursday, tried on a Dual Time Overseas and a 222. Both lovely watches, the 222 in steel is gorgeous.

Looking at a few brands in this price bracket for a significant birthday present to myself in a couple of years.
