Because band A will get a reduction, so the upper bands will compensate.
Also, it will allow for increases in the license fee along with CT so costs will balloon over time.

Obviously I don't know where that crossover will happen but you can guarantee A will be a saving and G will be an increase.


I look forward to my 200gbp a year tax increase

If they proceed with this change and it isn't accompanied by a separation of the BBC's informational services (funded by a compulsory licence fee) and its entertainment content (offered via optional subscription), it would be a serious disservice to taxpayers.

I'd just withhold the amount that's for the BBC Tax. Cancel the direct debit and pay accordingly. It could wreck your credit rating though.

I don't think it'll happen. It's just too unpalatable to the British public and you could see large swathes of people refusing to pay reminiscent of the poll tax; it's just the excuse many need. The government really don't want that clusterpoop on their shoes.
 
Did doctor who actually cost the uk license payer anything or it's licensing to other countries who appreciate it payed for it

Yes, BBC still pays for the show to be made. Though since 2023 its been a joint production with Disney who part fund it in return for getting international streaming
 
I just struggle to see any point in having a service going, that most people don't want. Not a complete surprise that it is being planned to shove it down everyone's throat whether you want it or not.
 
All this could be avoided if they just accepted advertising.
They are doing it as is, but obviously with just the name and banners from sports events and not a 5 minute advertising break.
