Borderlands 4 (2025)

Watched a few videos since the gameplay was released. Not convinced it's going to be much better than the dreadful BL3.

This doesn't look promising at all.

Randy making an ass of himself on social media doesn't help either, but the double dipping VRM coupled with what appears to be a flashier Borderlands 3 is a turn off to me. The gameplay might be decent but nothing else hits and I'm not spending £60 on a potentially bad time, it's not like you can really get a feel for something like Borderlands within the Steam refund window either imo.

yeh think ill wait and see how it turns out, i got good playtime out of 3 and got it free with my old gpu, still think 2 is the best, will probably pick it up cheap at some point like i did with tiny tina wonderlands which was also meh.

Two is by far my favourite tbh.

- BL1 + DLC is fantastic with friends, a little bland solo imo.
- BL2 is the pinnacle of the franchise, I've a good 200 + hours into this game and that's mixed solo and coop.
- BL:TPS I tried with a few types but found it lacking, I could somewhat see the appeal but it just wasn't for me and some of the mechanics got old fast.
- BL3 was a one and done, had no interest in revisiting for the DLC either. Good gameplay, everything else was varying degrees of awful.

For the spin offs, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is okay, not super compelling but not bad. Tales of the Borderlands 1 is fantastic if you don't mind the game style, 2 is some of the most shockingly awful garbage I've ever experienced in over three decades of gaming.

Suffice it to say, I am (or was) a fan of the franchise and would love to revisit it. I'm looking for reasons to do so and unfortunately I'm not finding many, fewer on a regular basis in fact.

The most disappointing thing for me is the artwork. I was really hoping they were going to change the artwork in 4 but they didn't. I like characters that motivate me to play. Characters that I want to "look after" in the game. The silent puppeteer looking after a puppet! But I just don't feel inspired by the vault hunters in 3 and now 4. I'm not will to drop £120 in to the game right now. I will wait and see what it's like. And I might buy The Outer Worlds 2 instead - waiting a year for Borderlands 4 prices to drop.

Talking of which, I think we are definitely seeing an upward shift in prices now. Borderlands 4 - 59.99 for the base game, Outer Worlds 2 - 69.99 for the base game (price for that one really surprised me, 70 quid for an Outer Worlds title??)... the rumours that GTA6 will be the first game to cost 100 are looking more and more feasible

Wow I think Borderlands 4 may be the first game to require minimum 8 core CPU to run like Ryzen 7, Ryzen 9, Core i7 and Core i9 CPUs. Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Core i3 and Core i5 with up to 6 cores will struggle to run Borderlands 4.

I wonder if that's 8 cores or 8 threads, as locking out 3600/5600/7600 build owner would seem a bit daft. I speak as a 3700x owner and laugh at you mere 6 core mortals, I jest

Also surely a 5600 would outperform a 2700x overall

Outer Worlds 2 surprised me as well. Released at the same time as Borderlands 4 AND more expensive? Thing is that they can hardly reduce the price now, unless they can refund those who've already bought.

And this is why you build up a backlog and wait for deep discounts unless you're super enthusiastic about a particular title.

Well, inflation! Everything has gone up. Why not games? I think the prices are still reasonable. I mean, I can get hundreds of hours of play out of Borderlands... if it's any good.

Not bad looking that, to be fair

I think that trailer is better than the last one. Compares more favourably to the best trailer they ever did (Doomsday).

I'm still sad about the artwork, but at least they have sold the rest of the game to me. I'd like to see the return of the brilliant raid bosses we had in BL2! Those were just so clever.
