Panels are made for opening though, need to check out the innards and scope out where costs have been saved :p
 
That's the running joke, a large chunk of people on there don't think opamp rolling makes any difference because someone once did measurements and found the graphs didn't change much at all, even though you hear the difference with specific opemps.
 
My personal experience with rolling op-amps is that the difference is minimal at best. Like, I would have to be AB testing back to back to think that I perceive anything. Blind testing if someone swapped them without telling me I wouldn't have a clue.

"people on there", I don't really go on those forums but if that's what some people say, ok .I like my Sparkos and to me they sound superb.
 
Purely depends on the Opamps in question, many sound very much alike, and the NE5532P used in basically everything from entry level to top-end are picked for a reason as they sound very neutral/balanced on either end of the scale leaving the manufacturer to tune the sound with the architecture etc. The Sparkos opamps I had in the A80 had an obvious gain in soundstage and lower end bass extension - called it a more refined sound as the stock NE was more than decent as it was.

Ultimately it depends on the implementation of the Opamp stage in whatever the amp is on how good (if at all) a better opamp sounds. Rolling has been going on for many decades, even my Xonar Essence STX soundcard back in the 2000s could be rolled and I used Burr Brown modules back then to give a warmer sound to Sennheisers of the time, HD555 and HD595 if I recall.

Firmware updated, using just my Kiwi Cadenza IEM (only 3.5mm headphones I have with me)

I don't notice any bugs so far, it plays music, it doesn't have any noise as far as i can tell.

The screen is lovely, i love the VU meter. (I don't think it is like 120hz screen though).

Should be interesting to see what the line outputs from the DX5 II is like as well I guess and the MR5 also has balanced XLR and TRS inputs, which means i need to order more cables as I don't have enough for A/B testing.
 
Going to pack it up now, impressions so far are good. It feels nicely put together, it also feels heavier than my XA-02 (but I think they are very close, it is just this is in a smaller enclosure). The only things I can comment so far is I like how each notch in the turn of the dial is 0.5db on the meter (although not sure what the number refers to, it goes down to -99db and I am listening at -46.5db with these headphones.

I find myself liking the graph more at the moment, showing all the frequency bars dancing.

It's been on about 30mins now and still relatively cool....at a guess, the top of it feels like it is like 28-30c.
 
dB volume values are the correct way to display volume, imagine 0dB being 100% volume, by having a negative number, you're attenuating away from the fixed level volume internally, so -80dB would be 20% volume on amps that only show % - So your -56dB is 44% - -99/-100 dB would be effectively mute.

Some Toppings have a menu option to switch between % and dB though, this might have that too. The X9 can show both at the same time which is convenient. There may be a setting for volume increments too as .5 dB at a time is way too small and a bit pointless as there's barely any difference between such small steps and means you end up turning the knob more than needed etc. I prefer 2dB increment steps personally.

Holy crap the MR5 are good speakers, I did NOT expect this level of bass to come out of such small monitors, there is a 3rd driver inside as it turns out handling the low frequencies inside its own chamber.
 
I'm guessing that I'm the only person that uses bluetooth earbuds with noise cancelling and enjoys the cable free, freedom and weightless experience? I cannot stand wired headphones for gaming, very sweaty and it always aches my ears very quickly and the cable becomes quickly annoying :cry:
I do have some pretty hardcore speakers/amp/sub as well, but only tend to use it for online MP gaming and listening to music.

I haven’t found a good wireless set that is comfortable enough as my wired ones.

For gaming I bought the PC38. The Xbox headset was too small for me. It’s difficult to buy headphones blind and then only to find they don’t fit properly.

My Sony XM4 barely fits on my head at max extension.

Earbuds or headphones wise?
I have a few sets of JBL's, 1 pair likes to work it's way out my ears, but the other works well, it's just luck of the draw for me as every pair of earphones/buds I've ever had required a different cup for my right ear :cry:
I cant stand the compression of headphones, and the heat over your ears and on the band, I end up very hot quick quickly haha!

I totally understand on the compression part, which is why I prefer headphones with extra large ear cups where it surrounds your ears. Why I dislike the Xbox one, and I am not really a big fan of the XM4, they are on the ear and they hurt after about 3hrs wearing them...but I have no choice on a plane. So on the plane I swap to earbuds after a while to give my ears some relief from pressure. But my ear buds are not ANC, they are wired, my ANC earbuds can't match the ANC in the Sony, I don't think any of them can.

At home I prefer headphones, I think or prefer IEM to be used on the go, I prefer big headphones at home.

But I actually, for general listening at my computer, I use the built i speaker from my Mac Mini. I don't need great audio watching LTT or Throttle House.

Yeah it's such a nasty ache that they cause!
I don't think I could ever go back to headphones, I'd still have the heat issue and sweaty ears :cry:
Mine are ANC, I cant live without it since having it :)
Yeah when I play CS2 etc I tend to just turn the bass off my speakers/sub, I just like them for the clarity of hearing sneaky footsteps ha!

what keyboard is that you have and can the swicthes be replaced or just the keycaps?

How large is your desk?
