*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

Anyone know how often the oled certified refurb get restocked? Im looking at a handhelds as I found after the working day I need to get off my desk/pc which destroys any will to play :(

So far im looking at steamdeck oled and the legion go s steamOS. Leaning towards refurb deck due to price.

Finally got round to installing Emudeck this weekend. Why didn't anyone tell me how awesome this would be? The most addictive thing is tweaking and sorting everything to make sure it can scrape the meta data for everything so it presents all your stuff either as direct non steam games in the main steam list, or within the Emulation Station app. Then there is just the general impressive performance in the emulation. Took me a while to get round to it but it is so worth it. Used a couple of recent guides on Youtube which made it pretty easy.

I've never tried Emudeck and been meaning to do so - this has given me a nudge!

Haven’t really picked up my deck since my last factorio run through, but am now looking for another game to get into.

Bear with me as I have a very particular set of “requirements”

I loved factorio with no biters and it could plod around working on stuff while chilling on the sofa, or on a flight.

I don’t think I want another factory sim as I fancy a change.

I’ve always wanted to give Rimworld a go, have tried it in the past on my main PC but wasn’t gripped by it. The thing I love about factorio is just how simple it is to get started, but how endlessly complex it is, I never have the time to spend hours on “how” to play a game, I much prefer a game that lets you learn how its complexities work yourself!

Shall I give Rimworld another chance?

I find the games kinda polar opposites in terms of interest- Rimworld was great for a certain amount of time then I basically lost interest. I still go back to it from time to time, build a new colony and let it run its course. Conversely I've been running Factorio on a headless server for 4+ years now. There's always something to fix or improve, it never ends or (for me) gets boring. I've recently upgraded to Space Age and am refactoring everything for the new rules, which is probably going to take another four years!

Pre Space-Age, vast swathes of my factory were dedicated to producing Satellites. Now they're no longer required, merely deconstructing all that infrastructure took my 20,000 bots about 12 hours :D

I don’t want to dare get into factorio again (yet) or I’ll do nothing else

Crazy you're playing this on the deck. It's been a long time since I tried, but it didn't feel right to me... Has the controller support come along that much?

I have GTA V on my EPIC store which I managed to get onto the Steam Deck but for the life of me cannot get further than the rockstar launcher login :(

Yeah Java is meant to be fine, I really need bedrock for my kiddo.

I've seent he bedrock launcher - essentially it creates an android environment and runs the play store version in that. I may need to go this route if nothing else works...

I've put both on my kids one.

Java works through Prism launcher on the discover store.
Bedrock via 'Minecraft Bedrock Launcher' in the discover store - This required an extra purchase of minecraft on the google play store.

They seem to work okay.

Do they both perform OK?

If I've read correctly Java is more power hungry, and bedrock is obviously emulating an android instance as well as the game.

Cheers
