Forza Motorsport (10/10/23)

I play this purely single player\solo, and personally think for a arcade\slight sim racing game it's ok and probably the best no proper racing game, I like ACC for that, overall it's a good package but the main thing for me is the championships and limited theme races are good but I generally don't really feel like playing once I have done those and they usually unlock each stage on Thursday so I'll play for a couple of days then nothing until the next unlock, it just feels a bit dull. Overall I think I'm happy with it but I have played the series going back to project Gotham racing and think it's the least fun.

I am astounded at how bad the AI is. I do not remember Forza 7's being so oblivious to everything else on track. It felt like Gran Turismo 1 or 2 AI, from the PS1 era (but without the enjoyable game to back it up). They just do not know that you are there, and even worse, you'll frequently get really small time penalties when they smack in to you!

I did the introduction "builders cup" and then uninstalled. It just feels so bad, in many ways. The sound was rubbish, like far more road/wind noise than engine note. Tedious to have to listen to the manager/mentor woman constantly telling you about very basic things. Remember when games just let you start them without doing some chores first?

Soul-less is how I would describe this game, and I don't recommend anyone bother downloading it, even for the free weekend.

Really disappointed this hasn't improved, was hoping it would for me to re-install it, but nope.

Soulless as stated above, I don't like the single player mode the new way of doing credits is just awful.

The sound ... Seems all they done was just put an echo on everything.

Wet and dry handling seems to be the same.

Penalty system is a joke.

I had a nightmare freeing up storage space, so the download is expected to finish tomorrow afternoon and then I'll no doubt be disappointed...

Noticed minimum spec CPU is i5-8400, while our CPU is the ancient i5-6600!

Totally agree on all your points. I am utterly fed-up with the penalties I get when an AI car hits me. I end up rewinding a few seconds and try to drive away from the issue but it can sometimes take 3-4 goes to get it done without a penalty heading my way.

I just finished the Porsche series and I've never understood why you have to wait a week between each sub-series. It doesn't take that long to do 3-4 races so why must I wait a week?

The previous iterations of the series were something I enjoyed playing and I only got FM when it was cheaper/on a deal so that if it was as bad as I thought it was, at least I didn't spend loads on it. With FH5 seemingly it its death throes, and FM being consistently awful, it's getting to the point where I don't see why I would keep my Xbox much longer.

I’d never played a Forza Motorsport game before but had heard great things and got caught up in the hype. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. It’s not the worst game out there, but like others have said, it feels soulless and dull. I had zero motivation to keep playing—easily the quickest uninstall I’ve made in a while.

Pre-ordered this POS, played a couple of hours, uninstalled.

Just an awful game, totally not what I expected.

You'd heard great things about FM or the series as a whole? I would have pre-ordered FM but its original release date of Spring 2023 was dropped for an eventual October 2023 so I didn't go through with the pre-order as I was worried there was something wrong with the game for its release to be delayed by months. Comparing the Wikipedia pages for FM7 and FM, the staff look to be totally different, which might explain why FM was delayed and rubbish.

Ooof! What made you pre-order? The reputation of the series as a whole and/or bundle offers? Did you try to get your money back or does Xbox not support this? I waited ages after the October 2023 release, to see what other gamers were saying and to give the developers time to improve on things. When I first got the game the penalty system was atrocious. It still is.

It seems the Forza Horizon series is now more popular than the FM series. Not really a surprise. Not something I would have ever expected when I first dipped my toes into the FM series with FM3 but FH has made a good start off the line, drafted FM and made an ultimate pass for the lead, without getting a penalty!! :D

The FM series in general is good, but the latest iteration is dross, they need to go back to what it was like previously.

I got 1, 2, 3 & 4 on the 360,
Unfortunately I never played 5,6 & 7 as didn't have Xbox one, but from what I see and hear they were fine. 4 imo was amazing.

The Devs wanted to do something different, they openly said they wanted to make big changes to improve the game. What they ended up doing is the opposite though.

Had to downgrade to an old AMD driver to get past a game launch crash with our RX580, well known problem since around the third patch, when they did something to the DX12 coding.

Played a bit on our Steam Controller, it's ok, but nothing to write home about so far. Might set the G29 wheel up tomorrow or Monday before the trial ends.

I see cdkeysdotcom still have some keys for the older Forza Motorsport 7 available... Would Xbox live still let the key activate to play?

Had good memories of an earlier Forza MS on the XBox 360, was (still am) enjoying FH5, thought it was a safe bet.

I was wrong. :p

Fair enough. I too was thinking FM was a safe bet based on the earlier series but the delayed release date, as I said earlier, made me doubt this and I didn't got ahead with my usual pre-order. Still, you win some, you lose some. :)

I'd imagine so, they just can't sell it themselves because they will have lot licensing rights but current key holders should surely still be able to activate.

I own it from way back and I just checked, its still downloadable for me in the store.
It's a pretty good game but I think it had a memory leak and frequent crashes for everyone.

I guess we have 4x as much memory now so maybe its a non issue

Anyone doing the 20th anniversary series? It's just the car from each release of Forza that you use for the races. No retro tracks making a remastered comeback or anything fancy like that for you know a 20th anniversary! It's a bit underwhelming from the devs really.

"It's a bit underwhelming from the devs really" could be the tagline of the game :D I'm doing the theme races but as you said bit of a let down, overall I find the game is a fine arcade\sim racer.

Didn't think there was anyone else on the forums bothering with the game. I really hoped the theme races would have something new but no. Even the Fujimi Kaido track hasn't done much for me. I find it quite challenging to drive it quickly without hitting the walls and I'm not into drifting unless I have to. Damn the devs for putting in an achievement to do a clean lap of Fujimi Kaido. Took me nearly 10 minutes going silly slow to get the clean lap!! :o

Yeah the control is probably the biggest issue for me, it's always understeering using controller, and as a xbox game should be great, on most cars it's frustrating. One thing I found that "helped" a little is to lower the outside dead zone to about 80-85% as I think it was trying to keep turning.

It's not actually understeer as in anything to do with the physics. The steering algorithm (always necessary for driving games using a controller) limits the amount of steering input. You can see it using the first person camera, the wheel is just blocked from turning.

I spotted this in the first month and reported it on the official forums, haven't played it since. Game pass, thankfully.

The steering outside dead zone? Already at 85%! I do find a lot of cars understeer for me and the only way to make it round corners sometimes is to brake earlier than I normally would to turn in slower and get control that way. Bit annoying sometimes when AI cars can brake later than me and get on my nerves!!

Seems to be rumours from some Turn 10 employees that Turn 10 has been effectively closed and merged to Forza Horizon support. If true it's a shame but this version doesn't seem to be very popular, it's, along with Civ, one of the longest running franchise games I have played and if so, like civ, quite a let down overall but don't want it to be abandoned.
