Forza Motorsport (10/10/23)

They do seem to be improving the game slowly but still find it a little dull, my biggest issue, only single player offline racing, is the sound positioning of other cars is really bad, no matter what I try on PC and Xbox. Dolby and stereo, on DT990 and Maxwell. I still find myself playing it though :) although just a few races and then nothing

Been playing this a bit over the past couple of weeks when I have a short amount of time and just want something mindless to pass the time. It's been running ok but now I'm getting terrible flickering when framerate is set to unlocked in the game (I've had it set the unlocked from the start and didn't have this problem up until now). Not sure if it's down to a recent game and/or graphics driver update but the only thing that seems to fix it is changing the in game setting to 60 fps locked, which isn't ideal when I was running >100 fps. Anyone else having similar issues or got any ideas on how to resolve it?

Still getting the odd graphical glitch in this , when as others have said, Forza Horizon 5 has no trouble running at it's best graphics and looks far better.

That said, I am enjoying the Nurburgring and Brands Hatch updates.

I guess another AAA IPO is dead then, can't see them ever making another Forza motorsport game because no doubt they don't blame themselves, gamers just don't want racing games anymore

half arsed attempt at making some money for little effort, using parts of old games, models and assets from old games...... true AAA gaming

Haven't played this for weeks...has it got any better?

I uninstalled it after a couple of weeks, I just didn't like the new credit system, to me the menus made no sense I could never seem to just stick with a car I liked it forced me to change car at every end of season so I couldn't tune the car too much which made it annoying, the penalty system was either over the top or non existing.

I've kept an eye on it though as traditionally I've been a huge fan of Forza Motorsport since the 360 days (Forza 4 was the best imo) but it doesn't seemed to have improved that much and people still prefer grand turismo and or asseto corsa

I would say the game looks like a worse experience than Forza Motorsport 4, which I recently went back to. It's still a great game.
I think it's time for mass job losses at Turn 10, or Forza Motorsport being ripped away from them, as they are completely incompetent.

After all the hype, it's unreal that *this* is what they deem acceptable.

Agreed, I think it's a fine arcade racer. The racing and handling are fundamentally ok it's the rest around it seems to often be two steps forward one back with random performance issues. Also for a racing game that doesn't have a qualify option or times for gaps between cars seems a glaring omission. Also for me I play solo only and find it a bit boring and I don't feel like playing outside of the changing of the single player championships each week or so. I have it on gamepass but mine expires next month and not entirely sure if I will buy it or not.

I also had loads of issues with understeer using a controller, wouldn't let me turn and randomly go from almost not turning to allowing me and then not which was weird, I found out if I lowered the outside deadzone it seemed to help

I'm in the same situation as you pretty much as a solo/offline player. I find the penalty system unbelievably inconsistent. A car runs into me and I end up with a penalty, I run into a car and expect a punishment and get nothing. It's probably my controller settings but I find if I brake too early I end up having to accelerate again but if I brake just a little bit later I end up going off and losing more time. Maybe I need to adjust the outside deadzone too as I lose the ability to steer the car and understeer off.

There were loads of complaints about 'understeer' when it was first released. I realised it was nothing to do with physics or grip but rather the game simply blocking your control inputs, exactly as you describe. Using cockpit camera and just being able to see the wheel makes it really obvious.

I get that gamepads need some special treatment for steering, but games have been doing it fine for years and T10 somehow screwed up.

Tried to draw attention to it on the official forums but just gave up on the game entirely not long after.

Yeah, I think I randomly happened upon a post that explained that what was happening with controllers is it was hitting 100% steer input if you pushed left or right so lowering the outside dead zone effectively limited your max steering to not be 100%, I find 80-85% works well for me. Inside deadzone is personal preference but I have it at 0% as using a 8bit do with hall effect thumbsticks

This is what i did also. If i just want to play something on the controller I play FM4.
4 will always be the benchmark for great Forza! As you say it's still such a great game. It's the reason I have my 360 always set up :D

I will say that the new game is still fantastic fun and multiplayer has been brilliant with the group of friends I play it with. Sure it has it's issues but they have been extremely minimal for me and think it has crashed maybe 2-3 times in nearly 200 hours of play time

They have made it better every patch and its now at a point where it's where it deserves to be, imo of course.
