NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

How much are you undervolting by, and what impact does this have on performance ? I assume it's only a few %. If it was more than that I see little point in upgrading from my 4090 FE.

Undervolted (roughly a 300mV drop I think) and overclocked at the same time. Lower temps, lower power draw and a 4-5% boost to performance :)

Undervolt is defintely the way. Other factors that play into the power drop are resolution and game settings. I am using a 144hz monitor and making sure it keeps to that setting helps a lot. This is where things get tricky with higher Frame Gen levels trying to push beyond my standard resolution. Its a balancing act. Even with 0.895v I can hit 500W and in a stress test, but mainly in the high 300s low 400s now which was better than high 500s.

Yes, pushed fully it can hit 500W, but at least with the undervolt it’s not the norm now. It would often hit 600W before the undervolt. Most games now average in the 300s.

Do you use MSI Afterburner for the undervolt ?

This comment was especially useful. And you also need to bear in mind that memory overclock also affects undervolt ability, if on the edge of stability for example:

"I still believe there is a cap (no higher than 2827 at 0.89 and 0.895 are the only values found as it's hard coded in the GPU firmare. Even Bios flash doesn't circumvent that)."

I am not 100% on this but it seems to track with my experience. I have tested all sorts of voltages and clock speeds and 2827MHz at 0.895 is still the most efficient and stable. I did have to slightly lower memory OC from +2000 to keep the core clockspeed though. Rock solid now though and efficient.
 
My 5090 crashes in cyberpunk bench with +950 (1000max) set in AB at 0.895V. At +900 it doesn't crash though may yet be unstable and results in around 2500+ clock speed during load. Pulls about 390W max at 2160p DLSS performance or 500W at 2160p DLAA. I tend to use DLSS upscaling where available purely for the power savings :p Also, because of the relatively low stock boost curve I use 930mV to get stock perf with undervolt

It’s also the best way to approach the undervolt, most videos out there give the wrong info.
 
most 50 series will do +300 on the core clock and 1500 on the memory easily. Use afterburner. Flatten the curve at whatever volatge you like. Most would use the 900-950mV mark but could obviously go lower or higher depending on whether you value performance or thermals/power consumption
 
@Gibbo Don't suppose you have an ETA on the Zotac 5090 Solid OC White restock do you please ? Had to send mine in due to faulty fans, Now waiting for restock.

Switched from AX1600i to HX1500i ATX 3.1 / PCIE 5.1

and coil whine that was coming from gpu **PSU not GPU massively reduced, just a faint sound now at max settings over 200Hz

So maybe PSU's with more wear and tear / or not on the latest performance improvements will have issues like me.

Either way improved experience now.

Nice to hear you've finally found equilibrium. On my end, I finally got an Astral with hardly any coil whine and barely perceptible fan noise. Finally happy!
 
From my experience, undervolting is usually better suited to lowering power draw than to increasing performance. I like doing it to lower the temps and noise a bit. Works especially well on MSRP-level cards that don't typically have the beefiest of coolers.
