Freeman of the Land / Bonkers Theories

class - just clicked into them and the first thread i spotted was some walloper who accidentally resigned. that cheered me up no end

Exactly the same thread as I read. Golden.

Calls in sick for stress.

Tries to get a 4 day work week.

Submits a Subject Access Request to their employer.

Refuses to work on HV switchgear due to lack of PPE (which may hold water given that HV will literally vapourize you, but I suspect there's more to this)

Works on home laptop and then emails that to his work laptop for work purposes.

Accidentally resigns after typing out mock resignation letters.

Tries to rescind resignation.

Why do I suspect that their employer saw the resignation email and went "thank **** for that".

Dear Mr *****,
I'm writing to you on behalf of your father ***** *****; I have been instructed on a matter and
require your cooperation.
Please can I request you contact us on ***** as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,

----

Excerpt of a letter I received today, it's from a wills and probate lawyer, suspect he's realised I own 25% of his house.

My "cooperation" wont be cheap.

Watch this space!

Love a FOTL thread update.

I'd love to know how the conversation with his lawyer goes :D

**** getting real eh? Apparently you can't just pretend laws don't exist!

Drove past his house last week, has a 2003 Bentley Arnage, no sign of the one that VWFS are after, what a sad decline, a big hit to his ego! Had proper plates on, so must be complying on that one.

When I bought him out of the business he wrote his own one page SPA against the advice of multiple people. I had no choice but go along with his madness. The SPA could be challenged on the grounds of his mental health being a bit iffy, unlikely but possible..

I'm worried that my mother is heading down this particular rabbit hole. When visiting her last week she stated:
  • All IT is a method of control
  • She won't get buildings or contents insurance on her house because she doesn't want to be on a database
  • All vaccines are a con
  • People shouldn't have to pay taxes on cash income (I think she means that it's OK to fiddle the books. Something that her and he husband got done for in the 1980s when they had a business)
  • There is no such thing as Autism, ADHD, depression, or any kind of mental illness other than insanity
  • Literally everyone is trying to con her

TBF that last point probably isn't far wrong these days  . The second point makes me chuckle, does she not pay for gas and electric either, or have a bank account?

That is a bit worrying, and there is only so much a son can do. She is is an adult with her own choices, after all.

I guess that all you can do is challenge the extreme theories as diplomatically as you can, and try to make sure she doesn't take any action that would hurt her, as in illegal stuff etc.

One question, has your mum recently had a difficult time?

I've noticed that many people who turn to this sort of thing have recently lost someone, or had a health issue, or work stress etc.

If this is the case, then focusing on recovery from the traumatic event would be the way forward IMO.

We had one a month ago in the office, we have one a year but we had loads during 'CON VID'.
Usually it starts with one of my colleagues wondering what the hell they are reading, me being nosey and having a look and then I'll say "If it says Magna Carta it's a Freeman of the Land claim".
Basically major trauma, operations done, woke up and realised where they were and say their rights have been violated etc :)

Not really. Her life has been much the same for the last 15 years or so. She lives half of the year in the UK and the other half in Spain. Has plenty of money. Lots of friends. No real worries at all.
You can't really challenge her on any of this though. As soon as you do, she gets very defensive and shuts the conversation down. It goes like this: Make outrageous statement, statement is challenged, "I don't want to talk about this"........

Sounds very familiar. I’m guessing she is single? It’s quite common with older single women. The hawks who peddle these narratives prey on them, usually selling something in the process.

No. She is married (3rd husband) but he's the same. They both sound off at eachother and echo eachother's opinions.
