What film did you watch last night?

Jaws 2. Totally ridiculous and not a patch on the original, but compared to 3&4 it's a decent watch. Having a bit of a Roy Scheider moment. Also watched The Seven-Ups as well recently, about the same rating as Jaws 2. 6/10

Great car chase in The Seven-Ups as well. Same co-ordinator as The French Connection (also starring Roy Scheider)

Kpop Demon Hunters

I had no expectations, but really enjoyed this. Funny (I get the humour having years of anime under my belt), well animated, and some banger tracks.

The Killer (the 2023 one with Michael Fassbender as the protagonist).

I enjoyed this way more than expected, mainly due to the often irreverent and sometimes hilarious narration.

A man in who’s world killing someone with a staged gas explosion is just Tuesday and his work “focus” mixtape is The Smith’s Greatest Hits on repeat.

8/10

Nice one, I really wanted to watch this, but swerved it on release because people moaned, I'll give it a chance!

Superman… thought it was ok, characters pretty good but a lot going on and too much emphasis on krypto. I guess it was fun in a James Gunn way. I much preferred man of steel.

6/10

Bring Her Back 8/10

Damn good but a little gruesome lol, actually had to look away from the screen at one scene! Clearly a couple of directors to keep an eye on if you like horror films.
Just finished watching this too. I'd give it a 7/10, but definitely as enjoyable as Talk to Me. As you say, they've got some good ideas.

I think I know the scene you're talking about... I certainly breathed in sharply at that point!

Deliverance 9/10

Not seen this in maybe 20 years. One of Burt's finest performances and an absolute stand out film.
Finally watched this a few months back, incredible.
You genuinely believe the trauma at the end, when they've survived and are in that house with that family etc etc and after being grilled by the coppers.

Technically tonights movie but I’m sitting here bored to tears hoping it’ll finish soon so thought I’d post..

Twisters - Garbage 2/10

The original ‘96 version was grounded in some form of reality with an original story and likeable, interesting characters but this just wasn’t it. The leads lack the charisma and chemistry of Costner and Hunt. The whole thing is just silly with some bad CGI thrown in.
Costner? What film did you watch? It was Bill Paxton.

Riff Raff.

This is one of those films that had just enough to keep me intrigued, but never delivers. How you manage to take a cast like this and produce such a steaming pile of dog turd is a mystery.

3/10, don't waste your time.

I confused this review with the Ken Loach film Riff-Raff (hadn't remembered the hyphen :p)

Which if you like Ken Loach/Mike Leigh type films is a good one.

Bring Her Back - 6.5/10

Watched this based on the multiple reviews here, we enjoyed it but not quite as much as Talk To Me, so I'll give it half a point less.

And yea, that was a wince inducing scene...

A bit of a film marathon yesterday.

Dr. No (1962)

I don't think I've ever seen this from start to finish before. It's ok, very much of its time in certain aspects, but no doubt very original for an audience back then. The basic elements of what a Bond film became are here. Particularly the theme and the opening gun barrel shot.

5/10 (by today's standards)

8/10 (for it's original audience or compared to films I've seen from a similar era)

From Russia with Love (1963)

The second Bond film and again I've never seen it from start to finish. Definitely better than the first one, but it still very dated. It's hard not to cringe at some of the dialogue, but I can appreciate it for other things it did, that would've wowed audiences back then. Helicopter shots and stunts, boat chases, explosions and fights on trains.

6/10 and 8.5/10 based on the same scoring above.

Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

Same as the original, I've seen this loads of times and owned it on most formats. I actually think I prefer it to the original, it's a lot lighter in tone and had bigger action set pieces. Joe Pesci turns a double act in to a triple act and easily earned his place in the rest of the franchise. I think when I watched it for the first time I'd never seen a film open in such a big way before, it totally blew me away.

10/10

Boiler Room (2000)

Think of it like a low budget, more restrained version of the Wolf of Wall Street, even though it proceeded it. I have seen it once before and remember it was a decent film, a lot of faces that weren't as big at the time as they might be now. It even has Vin Diesel with hair.

7/10
