Ok, I have the rest of the odds and sods I think, my carrier is jumping into the system in the next few minutes and I'll unload a bit later once my Quest 3 has some charge and so long as it doesn't crap out on my again like it did this morning.

Panther Clipper Mk2 incoming today, anybody making a purchase? I'm short a few ARX but am tempted to throw the £2.99 required at the ARX store to buy the basic one just to reduce trips needed for colonisation hauling... hmmm........

Not me..... I want one but waiting for it to be purchasable in game. i am not comfortable with free rebuy ships so only use my arx on cosmetics. Hopefully it will be available to the unwashed masses by midwinter and i will get then. (my guess is November however given how much of a requested ship this is, it may be a money earner... i would not be surprised if they release it ingame to everyone just before xmas hols)

i just hope FD do not decide to have a trading CG and lock some pre engineered unicorn gear behind the top 25% to "encourage" people to buy the ship.

To be fair, the only reason I am at all considering it is due to the amount of ARX I have accrued, otherwise it would be a hard no from me too. I suspect that it's going to be the longest wait for a ship to be available for in game credits yet given that it's the only ship that can move that amount of cargo, hopefully I'm wrong.

I dislike micro-transactions intensely, I'm from a time when we paid subscriptions for games like this and that felt right, you paid for a service and received a service. Despite disliking micro-transactions I recognise Frontier need income to support this excellent game. Ironically I would probably find it less distasteful to pay £10 a month to play this game than £20 a quarter in Arx.

Meh, it is what it is. Would I like it to be different? Absolutely. Will my opinion change things? Not a chance. In the meantime I'll carry on ignoring people who insist that FD have to use ARX to maintain the game all the while there is another game out there that has had update after update and nearly nine years later still has yet to charge anybody anything more than what they paid for the base game, yes I know it's comparing apples for oranges but it still smarts a little to somebody who paid for a lifetime expansion pass and is still waiting to get his money's worth out of it.

indeed..... it is what it is and it wont stop me playing the game.

a couple of things do grind my gears a little and i must admit neither is directly the fault of FD

1)..... players who - some of whom actually state how much they paid for the game - very little - tell me, someone who paid far more than any other game i have bought that if i want the game to survive i need to not be tight and put my hand in my pocket to support the game.

Perhaps if FD had not released Ody in an absolute shoddy state OR blown buckets of cash on F1 licences and trying to spin up start up companies they would not have ended up in the financial hole they were in (though am glad to see them back in black now!)

2) players who spent years chastising CIG and Star Citizen for their ship sales completely defending FD and claiming it is nothing like the same thing with Elite ....... Now dont get me wrong i am not saying FD are as egregious with their pricing........ but to not even accept it is just at a different point - but on the same mentality is a huge double standard imo.

I dont especially like ship selling in SC, and i dont like it in ED........... but it wont put me off supporting either of them...... but there is no escaping the fact that I have paid probably 5x more on Elite Dangerous than i have Star Citizen.,,, but both of them combined have completely put me off kickstarter or equivalent projects for video games in the future.

Near as damnit what they done. "You know if you *really* want to guarantee being in the top 75%, why not arx up a clipper to get it done for sure?" - FDEV.

Pretty blatant really, but could have been worse if it had been 25%

yeah there is no doubt at all by definition the clipper is P2W in these CGs despite some on the forums using mental gymnastics to say it isn't (funnily those who bought it with it's free rebuy, instant spawn in as often as you want and fully A rated for free are some of the ones claiming loudest it's not P2W :D )
for me it doesn't cross the line to make me stop playing and am not bothered.... but 30% less runs to do the same thing as anyone in the biggest trade ship buyable with in game credits is P2W esp when there are special rewards in the mix

that said 75% isn't hard to get. I have done a couple of hrs and am already in 25% using my T9.

IF I stopped now it may already be enough to secure top 75% but even if not, another HR will cement my position.

had it of been top 25% to get all the toys I would have been peed!

CG currently on schedule to complete before it even gets half way in the time, however I am expecting FD to step in with the hand of god and change the numbers... so don't bank on it ending in a week and a half.

It's not really a PVP game though so, and correct me if I'm wrong, the only element of that is that getting a ship like the clipper or whatever means you can speed your way through the engineering stuff quicker? Then you obviously have an advantage if you PVP with higher rated stuff potentially (though obviously you also need a modicum of skill to go with it).
And as I understand it, apart from losers ganking players around key places like Jameson, PVP in itself is pretty rare due to the size of the universe in the first place.

With the clipper being pay to win it is only during this phase when you can only buy it with real cash, and only really for Community Goals where they put particularly juicy and mega-desirable pre-engineered loot behind a certain percent target on the CG. And no doubt about it, the loot on offer for this CG is probably one of, if not the most desirable modules they have ever had, in the form of increased storage cargo modules that will fit any ship. It might be these will become available down the line as acquirable in normal gameplay which would then be ok, but they haven't suggested this as a potential thing as far as I know, and they have had before CG rewards that are unique to the CG only. So until they come out and explain if you would be able to get these special cargo modules later on, there will be many who will be rushing to get these in this CG, and be tempted to just buy the clipper now to help with it. I mean you can't blame them for playing it like they have, and at 75% to get all the modules it is not the end of the world, but it is a definite tactic to make cash for FDEV. Hopefully, they won't push it too far with other arx related shortcuts in future CG's.
