What film did you watch last night?

Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth (on Shudder)

Pinhead returns for more ‘torture and sadism’.

This is very pantomime-y, almost as if Pinhead is going full ‘M. Bison’ at times. It’s as stupid as it is fun, with all sorts of nonsense. Unfortunately it drops all of the ‘lore’ they were building with the sequel, which is a shame… makes everything feel more generic.

It has a pretty high bodycount and with a very silly (fun) sequence in which Pinhead rocks up at a nightclub. What were those CD’s made out of?! (If you know, you know). Only other thing of note is that Pinhead continues his rampage in a church and is pretty blasphemous, which is a little unusual.

Probably the most fun + funny of the initial 3 films, but a shame they threw the good stuff from 2 in the bin.

6/10 - but lower if this description sounds tedious to you.

Watched Happy Gilmore 2,
The original is one of my favourite comedies so i was worried this would be a letdown but as legacy sequals go this is one of the better ones.
It is toned down compared to the first but does a good job of paying homage to the first and is funny.
The best adam sandler comedy in years.
7.5/10

Unbroken.
The true story of an Olympic runner, who becomes part of a bomber crew in ww2. He ends up in a Japanese pow camp & all the brutality it brings.
The start, when he's a kid is a bit meh & I nearly turned it off.
Glad I didn't. A remarkable story & another reminder of how unbelievabley tough that generation were.
I really enjoyed it & it has some great footage at the end of the gentleman himself.
After going into it blind. I was quite surprised that it didn't score very well with critics, although it seems audiences rate it pretty well, which I agree with.
Watched on netflix.

Directed by Angelina Jolie if I remember right as well.

I didn't realise the screenplay was done by the Coen brothers as well.

Great film, I remember watching it as I was on a Jack O'Connell binge at the time (Eden Lake, Starred Up, '71) and it was another great performance by him too

Great film. The Blu-ray has a fantastic Dolby Atmos soundtrack too, especially for the plane sequences.

28 years later......

Oh my, whilst we had reasonable expectations we were not prepared for none of them being met.
It was so bad, on so many levels.
I suppose that in itself is quite an achievement.
I was hoping that the ending might have made it all seem somehow better, but then I watched it.....

2/10

One for Jodie and the other for Ralph, for them enduring what they did whilst making it.

30 Days of Night - 9/10

Love this film. The vampires are actually scary. I watched it with no vampire subtitles and it really dehumanises them, making them feel alien and unnerving.

I also felt the protagonists decisions made sense for the most part.

Loved the ending.

Probably in my top 10 films. It really, if you pardon the pun, gets it's teeth into me lol

A few silly bits, but I can forgive them.

I'm now sat in bed coming up with a vampire survival plan for the village I live in.

War of the Worlds: Revival

Son wanted to watch as he is a fan of the previous films. Oh.....what did I just watch! 1/10
Looks like an advert for Microsoft, Google and Tesla(and Amazon of course).
I have watched some bad movies but I think this tops them all.
The hacking options in the mouse menu and movement agencies handing out codes over a teams chat took me over the edge.

Watching the trailer, then browsing IMDB could have saved hours of your life!

What is it with people ******* up War Of The Worlds adaptations?

There was that three part BBC series in 2019. Actually contained some good ideas about exploring what happens after the war, but overall it was a wasted opportunity that rambled on with more focus on social issues and never really went anywhere.

I really need to get my screenplay submitted to the right people...
