What have you done to your car today?

Well... after 1.5 years and 9k miles running my first stage 1 map on the good ol' 1.9TDI, I thought its time to redo it.

I've managed to smooth out the dip, logs look good, happy days. I've always wanted to learn how to tune cars, no pro, but its a fun process. I'll take the S...box to the dyno at some point. I'm tempted to throw some parts on it, but I think PD130 from the VRS would be a better platform to invest in. It's a little side project. :p

Edit: I know, WinOls is better etc... but its a pain in the a... to use. Although, for copying blocks and doing checksums its not bad. :)

Just got back from Modurstang with a mustang centre resonator in the boot of my car for some reason. I'm not quite sure why officer, but it sounds much louder now when I press the loud pedal....... :D

Nice clean plates with no dealer advert/green flash or shiny screws stuck on.

Conti all season 2s fitted all round and key batteries replaced.

Key decided to die just as the kid fitting the tyres tried to start it up to pull it back on to the car park, he looked very sheepish when he came in and said they couldn't get it to pick up the key. I went in stuck it on top of the antenna and away I went.

Imported Impreza had an old single din JDM stereo. Seen this well reviewed android unit on offer for £175 but pleasantly surprised how good it seems to be

 
Booked it into Halfords for a windscreen chip repair tomorrow. £25 insurance excess and it then increases my renewals by about £50 or got Halfords for £36 using work benefits
 
What's the deal with Halfords if they crack the screen in the process? Do they cover it or try to waiver their way out of it?

Last car we tried to have repaired they blew out into a crack across the entire screen - luckily it was a company vehicle, so not my problem

I'd assume with all repairs never mind who does them there's probably a bit of "at your own risk" as they've got no idea how close it could already be to completely giving up but in that case I'd suck up the insurance and get them to replace.
 
All I wanted to do was change the front brake hoses, I dislike rust...

The end of this one was a bit too corroded to reuse so I spliced a new bit on the end...

New clips and brake hoses on the way...

Those knackered rubber grommets are £15 each so they can stay. :p

The B&O hifi is good but has two really stupid decisions by Ford. The sub is a paper cone POS with a ridiculous boost at 65Hz which makes the hifi stupidly boomy, and the centre speaker is also a paper cone POS but with the added bonus of extremely high sensitivity which means it takes over the soundstange. I swapped the sub out with a Pioneer item which sounds so much better. Sensitivity is a bit low though so I've got a Kicker one on the way that has lower power handling but is 15db/W more sensitive.

With the sub, did you replace the entire unit, or just the driver? and which Dayton Audio Driver was it? I also think the sub is sub-par and if there is an easy swap for the centre speaker, that would also help as imagery is also weak.

I fitted the bonnet strut kit, using the bonnet stay felt cheap coming from a raft of cars that had bonnet struts..

Parts seller send the correct part challenge: Failed, again.

Got sent totally the wrong brake hoses... Here's hoping they can send the correct ones quickly! :mad:
 
Spent the morning stripping out the wheel arch liner on the donor car, and collecting up all the rusty/broken screws and clips. Took a nice bucket of parts to the motor factor to get new ones, and he recommended I call Toyota.

Hmph, wanted to finish today. Ordered one of the odd insert clips I've destroyed all of, the rest I can reuse and order when I've got time.

Guess I'll be perusing the service parts diagram a lot tonight!

Kerbed the front passenger side wheel on the Santa Fe - was late for court and desperately trying to park, without realising the kerb was higher than usual.

It's very minor (about 3mm), but still infuriating on a a four week old motor.

My Wife is thrilled, though. It's usually her that does the first bit of damage, so when she finally takes the wheel, she'll be less worried about scoring "first blood".
