What film did you watch last night?

War of the Worlds: Revival

Son wanted to watch as he is a fan of the previous films. Oh.....what did I just watch! 1/10
Looks like an advert for Microsoft, Google and Tesla(and Amazon of course).
I have watched some bad movies but I think this tops them all.
The hacking options in the mouse menu and movement agencies handing out codes over a teams chat took me over the edge.
100% agree, thought i'd give it a whirl. Didnt read any reviews, and then thought i gotta see this through to end. Terrible film 1/10

The Naked Gun (2025) - 9 / 10

Silly and stupid but ever so funny, it’s basically a 90-minute gag reel which you can’t help but laugh along with.

The jokes come thick and fast and cover everything from terrible puns, slapstick and farce to sarcasm, wit and innuendo.

Not every joke lands, especially towards the end, but there’s more than enough of them to enjoy.

It has a modern take but still works as an homage to the originals with a relatable plot and references and Neeson was surprisingly great in the role.

@Nitefly I think we watched 2 different films - thought it was absolute garbage. 23 years to write a script and that's what they come up with?

Good

Kid actor was good, as was the dad. Ralph Fiennes too.
Interesting starting premise, set up on an island and having to go to the mainland for resources.

Bad

Ralph Fiennes - had some Apocalypse Now Marlon Brando vibes.
Evolved/mutated infected. Birthing infected - i get we have seen the zombie genre a million times and maybe Danny B wanted to try something different? He failed, massively.
Ninja Jimmy Savile's - i need to read up on whether this had some meaning or just a F You to the audience showing we will lap up any crap churned out.
Cillian Murphy - was he in it? Did his story wrap up or did i miss something?

I would have been happy with the infected still being under the Rage madness, so lots of peril and deaths
> The Swedes didn't sink their boat, they were part of a recon unit and the World is finally trying to save the UK.
> mmmm, ok with the zombie hybrid baby, maybe the ending could have seen a Swedish heli landing at the survivors island and a doctor taking the baby as it may be able to produce a vaccine
> end
>28 Years Later Pt 2: things go wrong in a Swedish lab > mass outbreak in Sweden (or whatever country they took it too). Ending is either the whole World is infected or by the end of the movie, the outbreak is contained and vaccine created.

But what we got here was not good.

The Medium (on Shudder)

Thai horror ‘mock-umentary’ following a Shaman and her family.

Fun. Admittedly, I had low first impressions as it turned out to be… yet another Asian ‘ritual’ film with possessions. I feel like I’ve seen a LOT of that this year (The Wailing, Incantation).

However, despite having a very slow start, the horror aspects build linearly throughout, so it certainly ‘ramps up’. I think that’s what I enjoyed about it… plays it very cool and takes its time, so I become more invested as it escalated.

Aside from a few creepy moments, it’s not a very intense or jarring film, so don’t expect fireworks in that regard. Plus, you have to not be ‘sensitive’ to people taking old school rituals seriously - I did laugh when someone was trying to ward away evil spirits aware with an egg. Plus plus, prepare for a super maddening “don’t open the door!” scene and refusals to keep out of harm’s way. Horror film gunna film :o

7/10 - knock off a point if you’re not a horror fan though.

The Last Boy Scout (1991)

After watching all four Lethal Weapon films I decided I needed more Shane Black characters, so annoyed my wife by reciting the dialogue this one as well.

I always loved this film from my first watch on VHS and didn't get why it didn't do as well as the Lethal Weapon films. Willis and Wayans were a great pairing and it has my introduction to the delightful Halle Berry.

You could argue it's very similar in tone and has similar beats to Lethal Weapon, but that doesn't take anything away for me. There's some great dialogue, though not all of it lands and can be a little clumsy at times. Willis does the world weary character very well and Wayans is a great foil for it.

Still, it's very underrated in my opinion and I would've lapped up a sequel or two.

8/10

Absolute classic. And, as you say, very underrated.

Another first time watch for me tonight . . . "The Sixth Sense" really enjoyed this one as well, although I did predict the (what I thought) was a quite obvious twist.
How on earth have you gone 26 years without knowing the twist ending ! Its been parodied/mentioned/referenced in SO many other tv shows, movies, books and memes for the last quarter of a century. You're an alien invader in disguise, admit it !

When I first saw this back on DVD when it came out, I didn't get to the cinema and didn't have the twist spoiled as no real internet/social media, however i totally spoiled it for myself.

Being the nerd I am I decided to watch the extras first not thinking anything of it, boom! Twist ruined

28 years later 6/10

Really enjoyed most of this, but oh dear that ending :( Would have been a solid 7 otherwise.

My hopes for the next one in the series are not high, especially with it being directed by Nia Dacosta (the marvels :p )

Happy Gilmore

Never watched it, but obviously no. 2 has come out, so I thought I'd give it a go.
Not the greatest fan of Sadler, tbh the wedding singer is the only film of his I've liked previously.
Absolute crock of poo. Typical predictable American humour. You can see the poor gags coming a mile away. Couldn't be bothered watching it all.
3/10.

Another first time watch (Trying to clear some of my backlog rather than watch stuff I've seen a hundred times already) anyways . . . "Cowboys and Aliens" was decent enough, and I did enjoy it overall.

Haven't watched this is Years, I seem to remember I always enjoyed it, so I've added it to my list of film's that require a re-watch.
