Have put over 8 hours in to the EA Beta.
I messed around in BF1942, Desert Combat and BF2 then played BC2 on Xbox, then BF3 which I then built a top PC for at the time after playing on XB to get the full experience, then lots of BF4. Some BF1 and a decent amount of BF5. So think I have a decent perspective.
It's good. Have played 99% infantry combat as can't be bothered to rush/camp for tanks and air vehicles.
It is fast paced but I remember 3 and 4 being somewhat similar although the larger maps on those makes the pace feel slower. So hoping the larger maps slow down the manic pace a bit, especially for my 40 year old reaction times! Maps are okay, as mentioned lots of funnelling but I have been playing only conquest (looking forward to Rush though) so quite a few routes to go resulting in less congestion.
Looks great, although have lowered some graphics settings as with all the stuff going on am struggling to see enemies, but I did find that in BF1 and 5. Not sure if there are any other settings I could adjust to make enemies more apparent. Sound is great as per usual with BF games.
TTK. I am honestly not sure, I have a feeling it's more of a netcode issue as have had the one frame deaths and then some good gunfights. Also shot behind cover/around corners still seems to be an issue with the netcode. Another weird bug I get is randomly taking damage, just spawned completely safe and boom am on 20% health or running through and just seem to take a random hit, again no-one around. Also just had it in my last game, attacking a tank, it killed me, respawned, tank got killed by someone else and I got vehicle destroyed and the kills. So definitely some bugs that need fixing!
Overall I don't have rose tinted specs, BF4 was awful at launch with netcode and took them a good amount of time to fix it. This is definitely one of the most polished beta's I have played and am just hoping the new maps are decent. I also don't fall into the snobbery of it's not a 'proper' BF game. I mean BF2 was released 20 years ago, games and playstyles plus the audience has moved on a lot since then. They could make just an updated copy but with other slow style games popular and available it just wouldn't sell.
