Competitor apparently going bump

I wouldn't usually wish a company to go out of business, considering the loss of jobs, etc. However, in this case, it is farewell to bad rubbish. A few years ago, I ordered 4 hard drives from them, and they claimed on the website they were in stock for next day delivery.

Two days passed with no sign of the order. I then called them, and they claimed they didn't actually have the items in stock. I asked to have the order canceled, but they then said that cancellations couldn't be done after (X) time had passed after placing the order online, even though the items couldn't be shipped. They then proceeded to tell me I could send the items back once they had been delivered to my address?? I unfortunately found out after who the owner was, a guy known for leaving a trail of unhappy customers and fringing on consumer rights.

The biggest thing that will put me off a retailer is how they handle returns. As a loyal customer, you can see my order and return history, so you should know I only return items if I genuinely believe there’s a fault. Treating me like a conman is the quickest way to lose my business.

Bought from them a few times ages ago and to be fair i never had a problem, but after seeing how they dealt with RMA's i stopped buying form them, just in case.

Interesting. I was approached about 9 months ago by a recruiter suggesting I should apply for the Head of IT role. I declined but looked at the spec, lots of modernisation was required and had decent perks.

Can't remember the last time I used those guys. But it is a shame if they are going under and into administration. Always a good thing having some competition.

Still running a C7000 & 3Par SAN from 2014?
No idea. The pack didn’t go into technical detail and I wouldn’t have expected it to.

Arguably, if it’s fast enough and most importantly, still supported then quite possibly but I’d imagine (Read hope) they would have polices (Infrastrucutre, depreciation, support etc) which would determine when kit would be replaced.

Used them a few times in the last 5 years or so. Got some decent deals with eBay codes.

Less competition and people losing their jobs is bad obviously

Sounds like it has been terrible run though it it's got to the stage of being wound up because of debts you owe.

Back in 2021 I ordered a laptop from them at 11pm, it arrived at lunch time the next day - always thought that was impressive for free postage!

I don't have favourite stores regardless of whether its something for the house or the pc, when buying new I don't expect to need customer services so if an item is £10 cheaper elsewhere I'll grab it.

Recently I've noticed another competitor doing some pc stuff that is priced around the same as that competitor and OCUK - so I'm not sure if they are branching out.

pretty sure that amazon and ocuk track each others prices, they always seem to be the same anyway!

Kinda a good thing.

Price matching would be a sign that amazon isn't willing to undercut ocuk because there's not enough margin.

But anyone who can't shift boxes at the same price as amazon will get all their sales sucked away.

Back when I used to build my own PC's, I used them quite a lot. I've just searched emails and see that the last PC parts I bought from them were in 2011. Wow.... time flies!

I had a bad experience trying to order a £400+ new PC monitor years ago from Amazon in the past, I had wrong item delivered first try, and the next few tries all mysteriously were "delivered" but never turned up. At the time Electronic Buyer was the only place I could find the same monitor at the same price, ordered it and delivered first try on the next day.

Since then I refused to even consider Amazon for any large computing/electrical items, I'll stick to OCUk or the others as long as I can.

Like a few here, I used them many years ago, around 20 years ago. I bought two Samsung monitors for a dual display setup. When I unboxed them the panels were different and I couldn't get the colours to match. They charged me a restock fee because I had opened the box. The restock fee was 20 or 25%, plus return shipping. Never used them :(

Oh FFS, I just sent in an Antec Core to them this week on an RMA.

Guess I can kiss goodbye to £550 :(

You'll be an unsecured creditor now, pretty much screwed.

Dont feel to bad, friend of mine spent $11k on a custom PC and the shop shut down before he received the PC, $11k down the toilet
