What film did you watch last night?

Robocop (80's version)
How good the sound is, the intial introduction to murphy as robocop with the footsteps.
Ed209 with his footsteps and hum.
The brutality of murphy being shot up.

Ed209:

Robocop: (skip to 3mins 40secs)

Nice that it is in 4K disk form now, directors cut and theatrical cut

Godzilla minus one : 7/10
Effects and sound were great, looked and sounded great on the OLED with Atmos setup, story ... meh , as expected, overall kept me plenty entertained for a couple of hours.

Also started watching Monsters : Dark continent, just over half way through, odd concept, not sure at this point where/why the Monster actually come into it, but its done fairly well and so far I'm enjoying it.

Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (purchased on Apple)

Freddy gunna Fred. Once more… because.

Meh. The whole thing feels incredibly redundant by this point. It continues on from the 3rd instalment which is quite cool, but it’s otherwise not particularly memorable from a plot perspective.

The ‘heroes’ that survive, who we are supposed to be rooting for, are sadly the dullest ones… although there is an excellent ‘I’m becoming a bad ass’ moment that made us laugh out loud.

Freddy is now becoming an absolute joker… but still no rap from him. I’m waiting for this damn rap to show up. Yo yo yo.

4.5/10 - not worth watching, too redundant.

*****

Edit: oh ffs he doesn’t even rap in any film… it’s in this music video.

What am I doing with my life.

Jurassic World: Rebirth 5/10

I can probably sum this one up best from my wife’s reaction when the end credits rolled. We looked at each other, she motioned a thumbs down sign while blowing a raspberry – and she is usually the forgiving one when it comes to films! :D

Not strictly last night but have seen K-pop Demon Hunters about 6 times. Not fully, just catching bits here and there when the kids watch it. They absolutely love it, 3 boys, 5, 7 and 10. Caught them casually singing along and made me sort of sit and take notice. Ended up watching it fully with them.

8/10 from me. great visuals, music 10/10, story is fun and comedy spot on. Music wise, think its blown out the water, anything Disney has done over the last few years.

825 Forest Road (on Shudder)

A family moves to a town with an unusual rate of suicides.

Good premise and chapter based gimmick, but in execution this was pretty darn bad. The weak opening features overacting and unearned ‘forced dread’. The film recovers a bit before descending down a road of average to cliched to laughable, with an absurd and unsatisfying conclusion.

This has one of the worst ‘antagonist’ designs ever… could not have been more ‘stock’. We literally laughed out loud :o

3/10 - avoid.

Casino - 9.01/10

Actually enjoyed this marginally more than Goodfellas. I think more De Niro and Pesci helped (and Sharon Stone was fantastic). Pesci does play basically exactly the same character he did in Goodfellas though.
i watched the godfathers 1 2 and 3 then went to casino. its a brilliant film . now if you havent seen it watch Gotti. great film. 90s class. assantee is up there with brando for that.

Ali - 6.5 / 10

Having just read Will Smiths autobiography, I thought I'd catch up on a few films he talked about that I hadn't seen. This one leans a little towards arty and IMO is maybe 40 minutes longer than it should be. Not a huge amount happens and then things happen with no context or explanation (unless I wasn't paying close enough attention) like him getting in Sony Liston's car, or 'someone' being shot when his guy comes off the phone.

Land of Mine - 8.5/10

Inspired by the true events in Demark after WW2 where the Danish forced their German POWs (mostly young boys) to clear by hand the 2 million mines the Germans had laid down the Danish coast. This follows the story of one such squad being led by a Danish sargeant. It starts with everyones attitude towards the POWs as being less than human and how the sargeants attitude changes towards them as time passes.

Wow, what a film, not only do you have the inate suspense of the mine clearing but this is one of those films that is an emotional rollercoaster of a journey, and I don't flinch much in films but one scene literally took my breath away. Probably not been as emotionally engaged in a film since 3 Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Highly recommended.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse - 7/10

How had I not heard of this Zombie film before, especially such a good one!

A comedy horror, with the right balance of levity and gore, it's a trope that's been done many times before and this time centered around a small team of scouts. Many laugh out loud moments and quite a few things I've never seen done before in a Zombie flick!

+1 score since I'm a fan of the genre, but it's definitely an A grade of the B movie.

Fear and loathing in Las Vegas.

Somehow managed to avoid seeing it until now. Going to give it a 5/10 on the basis that I didn’t make it all the way through but can appreciate why it might be regarded as a classic. First half got a few smiles at silly bits but second half had me nearly falling asleep.
