What film did you watch last night?

Not a film but series, if that counts

The tattooist of Auschwitz, quite a moving tv series.

Swordfish 4/10
My wife didn't ever get round to seeing this. I haven't watched this since not long after it first came out - after watching, I remembered why! :D

Thunderbolts

Not a Marvel fan at all, but I finally managed to get in the mood to give it a try on the flight home the other day.

Surprisingly watchable, but still has the ‘invincible superhero’ feel, making you not care at all for any of the characters. And I did have a ‘is that it?!’ When it ended. But not too bad.

6.6/10

Superman (2025) - Meh. A rather uninteresting story with a Superman that I just didn't care about. Lex Luthor was just annoying and the fight scenes were dull. As for the super dog, it was probably as intended and something to make the kids laugh. The jokes mostly felt forced and weren't particularly funny. A film I doubt I will ever watch again and Superman Returns is still WAY better than both this iteration and Man of Steel. A generous 4/10.

Are you for real?? There was literally zero "woke' or DEI in that movie. Perry has been black previously. Not a new thing!

As the the claims of ropey cgi and weak acting. Good joke post.

Krypto has been a big part of Superman comics since the 1950s.

Let me guess Man of Steel was the best Superman ever?
Who put a bug up your a$$.

Superman 2 was the best movie

CGI was ropey, maybe you need a better TV.

Krypto should have been put down in the first 5 minutes

Sorry I ain't watched on my TV. T
Just twice at the cinema. Personally nothing ropey about the cg at all.

Yes Superman 2 is still the best one, no one can beat Reeve. However I did enjoy this as I felt like I did as a kid seeing Superman the movie for the first time, it ca

Gad all the right things and looked and felt like a comic come to life.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Fear and loathing in Las Vegas.

Somehow managed to avoid seeing it until now. Going to give it a 5/10 on the basis that I didn’t make it all the way through but can appreciate why it might be regarded as a classic. First half got a few smiles at silly bits but second half had me nearly falling asleep.
The first time I watched it was in a drug infused apartment in Mainz Germany with some friends. It was in German and I thought it was brilliant. I suspect if I watched it now it would just be a bit crap. :p

Superman 2025
I'll copy what I said in the dedicated thread, as it makes more sense continuity wise.

7/10 easily.
I take back any doubts that I had, this film is it's own thing. IF you can walk into it with that mindset, you'll like it - in the same way The Batman/Joker isn't trying to be The Dark Knight trilogy.

This is very silly, but in a good way, I think by the end of it, the wholesome comedy portrail, is what won me over. It is both it's strength and weakness, I was going to give it 6-6.5/10 but the good outweighs the bad, as there are some weak parts that felt rushed/cheaped out on/could have been better, but overall, you still end up liking it, a lot.

It is clearly meant more for kids and less of the serious/trying to be real/dark/believable style that TDK and MOS/SR portray in their modern renditions of Batman/Superman, but that's completely fine, we can have both - just like we can like TDK and The Batman in their own individual takes.

The cast was surprisingly good, I think that impressed me more how well the actors did, versus what you expect, it just worked casting them in this film. That doesn't go to say these are top tier actors, but they didn't have to be, the silliness of the movies humour throughout, 'just works'.
You're left with a warm humbling wholesome feeling after - something I was not expecting to walk away with.
But I went into it with an open mind.

It just goes to show, that as usual the media stirs up complete ******** about anything they can get their hands on, and makes out it's something that it isn't - I didn't feel any hard pushed woke agenda or any of the nonsense that i've red. Journalists really are pieces of ****, and will make up lies about anything to get paid, clearly.

This was one of the few films I bothered to read up on (because I was initially excited, then worried), and I nearly fell for the rubbish they spouted! Never again.

So TLDR, take it for it's own thing, just like you do with any Batman/Joker movie, despite loving The Dark Knight trilogy.

I still prefer Superman Returns and Man Of Steel, due to the dark and more believable/realistic 'if it was to happen it'd be more like this in reality' Dark Knight-esque style both films had - especially Man Of Steel (being a Nolan), just like I prefer TDK trilogy to The Batman and Joker, but I still love The Batman and Joker in their 'own way', it's just 'at a push if I had to rate one over the other' mentality I'd choose the formers. But so what. Now I have even more versions of something I love, and they're not trying to copy each others style, so I'm all for that!

I'm more than happy to watch more of these if they make sequels.

The dog worked for me, I tried to not look into that part, as many critacised, glad I didn't, it worked.

Also, does anyone else think Rachel Brosnahan, looks the spit of Demi Moore in her prime, in this? Definitely not a bad thing ;)

Superman - 6/10

Was okay, but I wasn't sure what it was at times. There were some things in there, maybe I need to know the lore to understand (like the reporter with her boobs bouncing. I'm not complaining, but why was she there?! Drunk Supergirl at the end. What was that about?!)

Agree though, I'm kinda confused calling it woke. There's like four non white people in it, no gay action... I don't get that complaint.

I was going to go for a 6/10 too, but I thought despite it's obvious flaws, the way I felt by the end of it, and leaving it, upped it to a 7.
It could have been very very good, and made better, but for once I give that a pass and think it was enough to enjoy it. Normally I'd pick more at stuff, but that feeling really was wholesome and humbling.

The Supergirl bit, was just to make another lighthearted joke about why the dogs out of control, like he said, don't read to much into it, it was just another opportunity for a light laugh again IMHO :)

Yeah, all this woke complaining in reviews and banging on about comparisions to illegal immigrants etc and how that was the secret undertone etc, ********, he's always been an alien, and not once did he claim to be all about 'Murica!!! etc like reviews moaned, he just classes himself as a human? The journos were literally stirring up ********, as usual.

Reporter with her boons out? Was it Cat Grant?

Drunk Supergirl is a big plot point from a comic story and that is what has been adapted for her solo film. She is a mess and doesnt know where she fits in the world. Leading to an adventure of revenge.

Oh, I was just referencing the comment above. I guess they've been influenced by mainstream media?

Hey, I didn't say they were out, but they did seem to be there just to be jiggled. A google search confirms it is Cat Grant.

Yeah, it's all I saw the journo's slating it, that and comparing Superman being on earth to illegal immigrants etc, claiming that that was the message of the film etc and making out Superman was claiming in the film that he's a true American and all this other nonsense.

Yeah, for fake jugs, they def jiggled. She looks better in that poster than in the film.
