** Kingdom Come : Deliverance 2 **

Quick question, is buying a new horse worth it? Ones that give a good increase in stats seem to be about 3,000, which is a lot of groschen!
As Ed said, good old Pebbles becomes much faster and stronger if you ride her enough, so I would recommend keeping her.
Any of you tried the hardcore mode?
I played KCD1 only in HC mode and if it was available at launch for KCD2 I would use it there too. But at least I have it to look forward to for the second run sometime in the future. The lack of GPS is my favourite feature, makes navigation much more involving/immersive.

If you keep riding your first horse after enough distance a secret perk unlocks that makes your first horse (patches?) much faster.
I had Pebbles and took Herring when offered just after the wedding.

Looking online, supposed to just confirm the names but I’ve found out that Herring can also get a secret perk to turn him into Red Herring with much improved stats, thank you!

Is the melee combat better than the first?
That was what put me off, the combat was a bit "Skyrimy"
The melée in Skyrim is very simple - you can attack and block and that's it. Not much room for strategy. I didn't think the combat in KCD1 was like that. KCD2 is simlar to KCD1 - you can attack from different directions, parry, riposte, do combos. Different weapons do different types of damage, and different armours resist those types of damage differently, so picking an appropriate weapon and using it the right way makes a difference. It feels like the devs did some serious research into medieval martial arts.

What I meant was it felt floaty and inaccurate. Much like the combat in Skyrim.

I can see how you might think of it like that. It's been many years since I played KCD1 so I can't compare exactly, but I don't think it's changed much since the first one, so KCD2 will probably feel the same to you. I quite like it though. I think they've done a good job with the sound effects, which make good hits sound solid, and the back-and-forth of parries and counter attacks can be quite tense.

@marinersfan the sword combat needs some commitment to learn but you have options to find teachers / books and learn and level up your skills through paying them a fee. Once you've got your skills and combos in your characters inventory you can pretty much take a few potions and button mash your way through a fight as you end up inadvertently hitting combos, at least that was my experience. I didn't necessarily feel I'd mastered the technique by the end of the game but it felt satisfying at times. TBH poisoning arrows with dollmaker potion and your sword with bane potion pretty much makes most fights manageable.

I know quoting your own post is weird but last night after stopping fast travelling and riding Herring everywhere for a while I unlocked Red Herring and now have a very nice horse!

Luke Stephens was at the KCD Fanfest event and played the second DLC, so a review

Good that it enhances late game economy, the balancing was one of the few issues I would nitpick about the base game.
