What film did you watch last night?

They say it get's better after the first 20 minutes or so
Thing is, if a person generally doesn't like animated films aimed at a younger audience, or doesn't like musicals/this type of music, or doesn't like eastern themed media, they are unlikely to enjoy KPDH. That doesn't make it a bad film.

Funnily enough, I think the soundtrack is stellar, better than actual K-pop (which has never been my jam) and better than pretty much any normal pop releases this year. Wife and I (early 40s) were singing along all the way to and from Chessington World of Adventures yesterday xD

Hot Shots (1991)

Seen it a few times before but many, many years since. Assumed the comedy would have aged and this would just be terrible.

But no lol.

7/10

Hallow Road - 7/10

This was pretty gripping for a very small budget, limited film. Only really two actors and mostly in a car. Two parents speaking to their daughter who has been in a car crash as they race towards her. Rosamund Pike was excellent.

IT - Part One - 6.5/10

I’m not sure how many times I can watch one person getting separated from a group, looking round a room to suspenseful music and then a cheap jump scare. There’s a gazillion of them in this film. You could literally shuffle them like cards and it would make no difference to the story.

That being said, some of the visuals are different to the norm and Skarsgard is clearly having a good time.

I suppose I was just expecting more.

Watched Night Always Comes on netflix.
A woman has to get 25k in one night to buy a house to avoid eviction for her and her family.
Well shot and decently acted but very slow and mediocre overall.
4/10

F1 The Movie - 6.5 / 10

As long as you don't take it too seriously, it's a reasonable movie. A little formulaic and slightly contrived, but entertaining enough.

Kpop Demon Hunters (2025)

Another granddaughter sleepover and she obviously wanted to watch this for the umpteenth time. I don't know how she learns the songs, dialogue and dance moves so quickly.

To be fair, considering it's obviously not aimed at an old duffer like me, it was actually quite good. The songs were mostly quite catchy, the animation style was great and the voice acting was also very good. The overall story wasn't particularly original, but what is nowadays?

I was entertained

My score 6/10
Granddaughter's score 10/10

The Banshees of Inisherin. 4/10

All of that score is because the island was beautifully shot and the acting wasn't to bad, but over all the story was as dull as dishwater.

Was really looking forward to this movie because of the high ratings it got.

Will borrow this.

Not at all. :(
I couldn't get on with it either when I watched it and ended up turning it off. Which was a shame as, like you, I was looking forward to it at the time. Particularly because I enjoyed his previous work, In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths and Three Billboards.

I’d rate the first part higher. This is probably about where I’d rate the second part, though. That was more disappointing for me.

The Roses - 6/10

From what I can remember of the original, War of the Roses (1989), this does have a very different vibe and is an easy watch of a film that isn't going to win any awards but passes the muster. It has a few laughs though probably not as many as it should being a comedy and the last half hour of the descent into the actual fighting felt a bit tacked on and somewhat out of character to the rest of the film, whereas it was more of the core of the first film, iirc.

Cumberbatch and Coleman make the film tbh and drag it up to the 6/10
