What film did you watch last night?

lol I'm calling shenanigans on that, there's loads of CGI sharks.
Yeah, there is some filler content CGI sharks here and there. But it's awesome that most of it is done with remote controlled robots. Plus they got one of the biggest legends in the animatronics scene, to make the robot sharks for them, Walt Conti!
If you watch the making of the sharks video - anything decent seems to have been done with a remote controlled robotic shark :)

There are some awesome scenes throughout, especially the swimming with the tiger shark, and the various parts underwater by the nets, such as this awesome shot! - Yes, I know you can see a seam on the rubber, if you're being critical, but it looks very realistic, other than that, and I'll take this all day long over CGI!

You really have to appreciate the skill of building/controlling these robot sharks! Walt Conti is very talented :)

Regardless, it's one of the best shark movies we've had, 2nd to Jaws, and I'll die on that hill! Anything else, has been a fully CGI fest wannabe movie.

It’s not good, but it’s not nearly as bad as everyone used to make out.
It's basically mad max on water, if it had a vehicle as iconic as the interceptor I've no doubt it would have gained a similar cult following imo!
However i was in my early teens when it came out so I was it's prime target audience.

The Conjuring: Last Rites (at the cinema)

Likable paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren deal with yet more spooky things plaguing a(nother) helpless family.

Passable. The cast are all quite good but the material just isn't fresh enough to warrant revisiting the series unless you want 'more of the same'.

This time around there is a lot of emphasis on the relationships in the family and this takes up a pretty hefty amount of screentime, to the point where I felt like the film was quite slow at times.

When spooky things do happen, there is nothing exciting for those familiar with the territory. The ghost designs feel uninspired. The plot re-treads the usual things and nothing is unexpected. The foreshadowing felt very laboured and you could see all set-ups from a mile away.

Still, you can do a lot worse and if you only like to dabble in horror you might enjoy it. It's certainly a lot better than the last Insidious film... that was terrible.

5.5/10

We like watching The Conjuring movies, but they have started getting stale - was hoping this would be good :(

Margin Call (2011)

Seen it before, but the wife picked it as we were scrolling through my media server.

It's probably better watching for a for a first time than a repeat viewing, but still good. It is hard to have any empathy for any of the characters as it basically depicts Goldman Sachs blinking before Lehman Brothers and kicking off the 2008 financial crisis.

6/10 maybe a 7 if watching for the first time.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) 2/10
I was one of the few that did like the 1997 original. Sure, it has more than a few flaws, but it didn’t focus on trying to be too clever and the pre-credits ending was great (as was song that followed it).

The biggest issue with the reboot is the new characters. They are entirely unlikable and you actively want them dispatched! After the first 10 minutes I couldn’t decide who I wanted to be killed off first the most (all of them would have been absolutely fine with me). It fails generate any tension or suspense, so when it does attempt a few jump scares here and there they completely miss.

I like the original.
As soon as I saw the 2025 wasn't the original cast, I didn't bother. The ratings seem to reflect I was right not to waste my time :P

I'm feeling another viewing of The Big Short in my near future.
That's a great movie/cast!

3 of the 4 original cast from 1997 are in this!

I'm not saying you need to like or watch it for that reason, but it's just like scream in that respect. Stories set in the same town over many years, with some characters crossing over and returning.

Oh really? Maybe I didn't look properly, I thought it was an entirely new cast remaking the original story.

I don't mind some of the newer Scream's. But they are still poor, but 1 of them was quite good I remember - with rose tinted spec's, probably :P

It's a sequel based almost 30 years after the original (1997 and 1998) events/films. I never saw the 3rd direct to video film (2016 iirc) but the 1997,1998 and 2025 all happen in the same universe, chronologically.

Yep, like the recent Scream reboots, it's a new story, not a remake. To be fair the 'new' story isn't a million miles away from the first though, but I think that was the point.

2 of the original cast are in it, another pops up briefly.

I went to watch the original sequels and saw it had awful ratings and none of the original cast, so avoided it, so not to taint the original. I'm a bit worried in the same respect with this one, full of no-named randoms.

Yeah, I think the first 2 of the 3 recent ones were good IIRC then then latest one wasn't? Can't remember now. That or the first or second of the 3 were good and the other 2 out of that weren't, haha god knows  One of them was definitely good though :P

Watched Heads of State.
John Cena and Idris Elba as the President and Prime Minister in an enjoyable action film.
Pretty good action and humor and good for an amazon film.
Much better than somthing like Red Notice.
7/10
